or at least I assume you can make factory crates of traps since I see people talking about it

I have tried several differnt crafting tools (the kind in your backpack) and stood by all of the different public crafting stations in town... and I never get an option to make a scematic

so anyone care to give me a clue as to what I am doing wrong?

I have 0 artisan skills... but I wouldnt think that would matter

also once I get the whole scematic thing figured out which type of factory do I need?

1) Make sure you are using a Weapon/Droid/General Crafting tool. Don't use the generic one.

2) You will need an equipment factory - I think that's what it is called.

You must use a General weapon droid crafting tool, while standing next to the station of the same name / type. When you get to the end, it gives you the option of making a manufacturing schematic. Do this, then take the schematic to your factory and plug it in. Drop in the ingredients you used to make the schematic, hit go and walk away. You'll get an email when they're done, and you can come collect your crates.

I would personally wait on it though. I was doing just fine with this process, but factories have been super buggy lately, and mine doesn't even work anymore 90% of the time. When you see some patching that fixes factories, then give it a try. It will cut down on confusion of learning, and you'll definitely be a lot less frustrated.

Become an Artisan, then get or make a specialized tool, like the weapon, droid, common item crafting tool. Betcha this helps. I am a low level artisan 2-0-0-0, but I can turn out some kickbutt stuff, make schematics, and actually turn a buck selling some of my couplers and barrels. You have to have the specialized tool, or you get zip. I have my own crafting machine at my house, and with the generic tool, I can't access the material hopper, with the specialized tool, I can use what I have stored in the machine.

Not sure of the top of my head but you might be right. It's Equipment, or Item or something similar like that.

Use use a Weapon, Droid, and General Item Crafting Kit next to a Weapon, Droid, and General Crafting Station. What a name, huh?
