As the server is down, a random thought or three

Skills are great, no doubt about it. Having PistolMeleeDefense1 (pistol whip) makes my life a lot easier both PvP and PvE. But how many times have you seen people running around the wilderness with a freaking unsliced standard weapon (CDEF anything), taking on mobs of seemingly harmless critters and having their butts handed to them?? I laff, step in, finish off the creatures, harvest, and on my way out, heal the poor little person if I can.

Along the same line- There is Joe Baggadonuts with his T21 Rifle, using it at a reduced level because he is still a novice marksman, shooting at red cons and wondering why he is getting creamed. Again, I laff...

My main point is - Training and Equipment. They go hand in hand. Without one, the other is freaking useless. Know what you can do, and when you can do it, and what it does to you. You lose Mind healing people, you lose Action with a lot of special moves, and weapon powerups sometimes make your weapon degrade faster. On that note, ever seen anyone with a shot-out weapon, getting 1 (one) XP per creature, as the weapon is crapola - check the condition of your weapons now and then. I do it twice a day. Carry backups, I never go out without 3 pistols and 2 rifles, just in case. Vary your weapons, if the beastie is resistant to heat, what about cold?

Which brings me to my last point - Intelligence. Know thy enemy. Anyone attacking a mob without checking the "con color"? Does the color change when I change weapons? What is that beast resistant to? Same same for PvP. I read that (and I hate to say this, but I am) a lot of "kids" are whining about having tactics used on them. Well freaking no duh!!! I do not charge into a battle without knowing what is going on. If I can get you to do something stupid, I am gonna do that. Life is not fair, and combat is really not fair. I may have the sign novice artisan on my head, go ahead, believe it (heh heh heh). There are no exploits, there are tactics, know the game, use it to your advantage.

We are Rangers. We are heading into what I see as a two-fold profession - harvesting animals for PvE and being recon for PvP. I want to do both, and IMHO, I am going to be good at them, or die trying.
