Thread: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT #2: No one will lose their title/boxes when the XP increases go live...

Guys,

Another issue that keeps cropping up.

No Master Ranger will lose their rank when the XP changes go live. No one who has a box completed will lose that box when the changes go live. The only thing that will affect anyone is that if you are working towards a box and have not completed it, you will have to complete it using the new XP rules.

This works both ways - if you are 30k into Wayfaring 4, you'll need to get the extra XP to finish it. If you are 65k into Frontiering, you'll automatically qualifiy for the skill when the amount is reduced.

I hope this make sense.

As for the question on when will this actually occur...read PSA #1.

Just out of curiousity..wont we lose one of the actual titles? Will "Hunt Master" be changed to "Master Tracker" or something equivelent do to the change of focus in that particular line?

actually hunt master should be the title for the tracking tree cause you're actually hunting down creatures by using the /areatrack and /track abilities.

The shadow isnt only used by the dark side- its also used by me......'Shadow'

Sorry for being such an uninformed idiot but where is it detailed that the XP levels are changing? I looked at the Ranger correspondent thread, but there are so many posts in that thread that if it's buried in there... I'm missing it. I'd like to know what XP changes are being proposed.

Nasrik,

Do a quick perusal of the threads below. There is one that outlines all of the changes to the Ranger skill tree that are currently in testing.

I have a question, or concern, but first let me state that I do not have a problem with the change.

I have trained many players that have gone weeks or more with a skill or three that need training but they wish to save money and wait until they come accross the rare Ranger that can train them.

So the question is this:

What happens to the player that has 15000 scouting experience and 2 skill boxes ready for training when the patch is applied? What change will they see when they log on? Are the boxes still waiting to be trained, and they still have 15000 scouting experience to spend?

That is a good question...specifically, will players lose some experience in the Frontiering line if they exceed the new cap. Specifically:

Currently, if you have Frontiering II, you can earn up to 120k experience. 100k is all you'll need to buy III and IV once the patch goes live. But, the new cap will be at 80k after the patch. So will players experience drop to 80k if they have a bunch accumulated but havn't bought Frontiering III and IV, or will they keep the xp they have earned?

Guys,

I can't answer these questions for sure. I would assume (which means I can be wrong) that you are not going to lose any XP that you have gained, even if you exceed the new caps.

However, I would try and get those boxes trained up before the change goes live so you don't end up the guinea pig.

If you've got a box that's ready to train, and have just enough XP under the current rules to train it, if you don't get it trained before the change goes through, you'll need to get the rest of the XP required to be able to train that box.

Once the box is trained, however, it's yours and it won't go away.

Delta,
Most questions are realy not directed at you. If you know an answer then good, you can let us know, but guessing or posting what you think the solution is going to be realy makes it feel like the issue is going to be ignored and people are going to get screwed.

Nothing is impossible. The patch could just as easily keep a skill maxed that has not been trained as it can keep a skill that has been trained. The only problem is that the patch can not do this unless someone makes the patch do it and they are not going to do things to the patch that they do not think of early in the process.

This is no dig on you. I could not do what you are doing for the community. You deserve nothing but respect for what you do and I have all the respect for you as anyone else.

Keep up the good work,

Raz,

I fully understand that not every question is directed at me. I don't post in the Ranger forum nearly as often as I do in the Scout forum, where most questions ARE directed at me.

"Nothing is impossible. The patch could just as easily keep a skill maxed that has not been trained as it can keep a skill that has been trained. The only problem is that the patch can not do this unless someone makes the patch do it and they are not going to do things to the patch that they do not think of early in the process."

I am basing my statements off of my contact with the Devs, as well as what has happened when this has occurred elsewhere. However, you are incorrect in saying that the "the patch could just as easily...". This is a simple game dynamic. If you change the number required for a skill, you've no longer "maxed" the skill. It's just a threshold. I can think of no easy way to allow a skill to remain "maxed" if the new requirement for training the skill has been reached. Nor do I think that the Devs will do this, as what is the point of upping the requirements then? Yes, the patch will only do what the patch is told to do, but this is simple common sense.

Once a box is trained - you own that box. The XP for it goes away, and you start working on the next box. That's why they won't go away when the requirements are upped. This is, again, the game dynamics.

Your statement of "they are not going to do things to the patch that they do not think of early in the process" is also incorrect. If something is a serious enough issue, or is pushed hard enough by the players and by the Correspondents, it can be added. This has been done multiple times for Scouts - the changes in maskscent (the timer), the changes in Camp XP, etc. Those things were all add-ons that weren't planned originally.

When I know something for sure, I state - "I know this for sure". If something is my opinion, I state "This is what I think".

Part of my job is to assure you that the Devs are listening, and that someone is passing your comments and questions on to them. I also think its partially my job to help answer questions - because I have the knowledge that comes with Mastering both the Scout and Ranger professions. If I have something to say, I say it. If not, I don't.

I don't want to sound defensive here, but I feel as if everyone here is waiting to get screwed - we shouldn't be. The Devs have been nothing but upfront with us on the problems with our profession and are working hard to make changes to make us better. If something is broken, or doesn't work as intended, that's not us getting "screwed" - it's a mistake and it will get addressed. You guys just need to have a bit of patience and a bit of faith in the Devs. I think they've earned it from all of us by now (and I'm sure plenty of you will want to argue this.)

Delta,
Well I guess we disagree then. I do not get the impression from your posts that you are basing them off of discussions with the devs. Even in responding to my concerns you seem to make your opinions an official stance of SWG.

It was my intent to come to the Ranger boards and to post mostly my concerns and experiences in the game to help improve the game quality. It seems though that all we do is argue with a corespondant over what issues are important though. What you think is easy or important should have the same value as what I think is easy or impotant, but you seem to think what you think has more value, at least that is the impression I get from your posts.

I have come to the conclusion that because I cannot figure out what are dev concerns and solutions and what are yours that I should not come here anymore. I am unable to communicate concerns without them turning into responses where you have to point out where I am wrong.

Like I said before, you have taking on the reponsibility and are doing a fine job. I wish you all the luck.

I figured SoE would *not* take our boxes away from us.

That's why I worked my ass off getting to Master Ranger this weekend. I was a camping fool!

We need to let our non-Master Ranger friends know the xp increase is coming. The ones I've spoken to think it's all going to be peaches and cream after Public Beta 6 releases.
