Thread: Leave an Open Market for us

Well here it goes...at first it may seem bad but i think its actually a good idea....

At novice ranger(post patch) we arer going to get conceal which lets us kamo ourselves with the right kits. Well i think that at Novice scout you should get /conceal and a +10 to it , but you cant build the kits. This leaves a market open to Rangers selling Kamo Kits to anyone with novice Scout ( just about everyone in this game ) ...Sure we can harvest and sell that but so can scouts..and theirs really no differance between the 2.. This way we have our own unique way of making some money

Horrible Idea. If every Novice Scout could use conceal that would completely destroy the usefulness of the Ranger profession. Sure, we could make the kits and sell them, but then Ranger would have no special bonus over a scout, other than being a glorified camo kit crafter.

I could MAYBE ALMOST be convinced that MASTER SCOUTS should be able to use camo kits (but not craft them), but even this is encroaching on our territory. Then, every BH, and most CH's would be able to use them. This would DESTROY our market, not create one.

You want a way to make money? Be a Master Ranger, go to an advanced planet like Yavin, Endor, or Dathomir, and offer to apply camo to other players, for a fee. For an additional fee, you could offer to accompany them and continuously apply it. THAT would be the way to make money, not craft the kits and sell them.

I have to agree with Aramus. The huge central theme of both our initial correspondent submissions and the feedback the devs gave to it was, "make rangers distinctively different from scouts," and /conceal (with the kits) was fully 1/4 of the solution to that. Granting the ability to scouts, with or without the kit schematics, would just defeat the purpose of the change.

I wouldmodify that slightly to say there is a "camo use" ability that goes up just like there is a medicine use ability. At novice I can use a stimB and medpack made by someone with higher medicine crafting skill than I, and so the same should apply for camo packs. You get the schematic at one box level, but can "apply" it a couple of boxes lower. Same as for using camps too, along with other things like using traps (that you're just not as accurate at).

-if it aint broke, you need to try harder.

you do realize that a camo +10 compare dto the camo skill of a master ranger is horible so even if i sell a camo kit to a scout hes not gunna get very far with it....but its money in my pocket

Boy,

Hey! No ripping off the scouts!

Personally, I really like the idea of the conceal kits being usable by ANYONE. You buya kit, you use it, get the bonus for a short time. The Ranger who made it gets use XP (which is already in there).

This makes money for us, makes people seek us out, and doesn't really hurt us - perhaps you get an extra bonus if you are grouped with the Ranger who made the kit.

Giving camo kits to Novice Scouts is a really really bad idea, as was already said. I wouldn't have much issue with allowing Master Scouts to use the 3 basic camo kits, with some or all of these restrictions:
Can't make them (obviously)
Can't use them as well as a Ranger (obviously)
Can't get exp off of them (just as non-CH's can't get CH exp)
Can't use them on other people

I dunno about that idea, I think theres already a good market for rare/quality hides and bone, giving one of our coolest abilities away to a novice scout makes the ranger a much less sought after group member, for if any dabbler could have this power, we will be a less valued group member, and that quality of being important to the group imo is necessary to the balance of group hunting...

Generally, this is a BAD idea, and I'll explain why.

Why was conceal added to rangers, along with the other new things, like tracking, placeable traps, and new camps? Because rangers were glorified scouts. These were improvements that the ranger class NEEDED to even be considered useful, otherwise, we were just guys who could harvest more hides/meat from animals, and we all know how long everyone would stay a ranger just for that.

Giving others classes, even scouts, the ability to /conceal not only defeats the purpose of becoming a ranger, but directly destroys what they were trying to do, make the ranger unique and useful. Why have a ranger in a group when you bought some conceal kits, and you can just trade them to people (most people at least have novice scout) and there ya go.

Not cool. This turns rangers into glorified crafters. That's NOT what the class is about, and obviously not what the devs intended.

If you wanna use /conceal, pickup the ranger class. If you wanna use /areatrack, pickup the ranger class. I'm sort of sick of hearing every class say "they got this, can we use it too?" because not only is it BH's whinign about tracking, but now scouts about concealing.

The only thing I have to say to scouts is this, you are a basic class. You have maskscent, and shouldn't be given an elite class's ability "just cause". Money in my pocket or not, I'd rather reap the rewards of helping a group by being there, not only concealing them, but by helping them locate just what they want to find, and the best way to get there, with the least use of conceal kits, rather than just a bit of cash. I have enough cash from selling hides...

All in all, a terrible idea. Rangers are an elite class, and deserve to be treated as such, not glorified scouts, so all scouts int his game can make use of everything rangers have been working hard to get.

Remember, us rangers were all scouts once too. So remember that I'm taking that into account as well.
