I am a Creature Handler as well, and tracking helped me back a Woodland Kima anda Grand Wrix. It works. It works even better now as a matter of fact.

Though, tracking (as well as Novice Ranger) takes up quite a bit of skill points, just to save you having to walk around? I know plenty of CHs who do not have Ranger skills, who find babies just fine.

They are your skill points, so it's really up to you. Tracking will tell you everything in a 500 meter diameter (I have Tracking III right now), and it will tell you if it's a baby or an adult, how far away, and which direction.

It is very helpful when hunting specific creatures, and the accuracy depends on your skillset. I rarely every get "random" results, or bad information. I have noticed it doesn't always get everything though.

You use /areaTrack. The higher the skill the more information. You can select creatures, characters, or NPC I believe. Again the higher the skill the more things you get to select from. I think you need Tracking IV to track characters.

You get all targets within 500 meters. If you have high enough skill you also get direction and distance. If there are more than 50 targets, it gets truncated.

The skill is nice but restricted in its use. You can use it to find babies or if you are filling out a specific hide/bone/meat order than it can help you find the type of creature you are looking for. It is not a huge time saver since you can run around and usually find what you are looking for anyway.
