First post to the ranger boards. I have two chars that have ranger skills altho I have never taken either to master.

I was reading a few posts and saw an idea for a ranger weapon ability for pve. Well I have also noticed that alot of folks have diffrent weapons they prefer. I like carbine myself, but I see a wide range of choices from others.

So here is a thought I had. Why not replace one of our lines with a combat xp line something similar to what is the marksman support line.

And heck for sake of ease they could even copy most of it from there. With a few notable changes.

They would have the follow specials:

Warning shot/blow - Would chase the creature off with either a shot or a blow from a weapon. This would allow meleers to chase off creatures. This would even chase off aggro creatures.

Confusion shot/blow - Adds a confusion state to the creature for a limited time that makes the creature attack at random even attacking other creatures.

Area suppression - Aoe suppression fire or blows. No limit usable on creatures only. No limit as the current ones have on a timer. The ham costs should be somewhat high but not out of this world. ( This in effect makes us thecrowd controlin hunts. IMHO where we should be.)

Heart shot/blow - Through out knowledge of creatures we have a devesting shot to creatures only. This would be akin to a stopping shot or even better but only on creatures.

By making the field combat xp you ensure that not many folks are going to go up this tree fast. You also add abilites and depth to the ranger profession making us the premier hunters as we should be.

Also by making it a combat xp field you can then use the abilities for any weapon choice no matter what the rangers prefrence.

By limiting these to pve only they shouldn't hurt pvp balance at all. ( Only issue is what about ch pets? Where do they fit in? Maybe this our job for pvp?)

So what do you guys think?

Are some of these maybe to powerful? If so what are good ways to scale them back?

Something like this would be nice, however I think Ranger is meant to be a support/specialty profession like Scout. The idea is that a Ranger picks up whatever combat abilities they want in addition to Ranger, but Ranger doesn't provide combat skills per se (except for Trapping of course).

I would have to disagree with you on the ranger not providing combat abilities. We get to hit creature bounuses in the scout and ranger trees. While this might not seem like alot it does add up. I noticed that I hit alot more then like skilled folks I group with when we are hunting. And it has to be those bounuses as they lack the skills and I don't and in the weapon skills we are identical.
