Thread: An idea concerning harvesting and enhancing the quality of the resources

I've seen suggested that when higher level rangers harvest, there be a check made to increase the quality of the resources harvested. The problem with this however is that we could end up with a varying array of qualities for the same resource type. This would be a problem for our customers as they would prefer large batches of exactly the same qualties for doing factory runs.

What I would rather see would be an ability called 'curing', which could take a large batch of already harvested resources and do a batch upgrade of quality on them. The number and degree of changes would be dependent on the rangers level in the hunting (or possibly survival) track.

Any thoughts on this?

It's a nice thought but I wouldn't be behind it. I believe part of the fun of being a Ranger is finding the good stuff and if I could make all the stuff at least better stuff, finding the good stuff wouldn't be as challanging or fun.

Besides, might it be opening a pandora's box when other professions would want to increase the stats on their minerals, chemicals, power, etc... ?

"Besides, might it be opening a pandora's box when other professions would want to increase the stats on their minerals, chemicals, power, etc"

- I can see it now...

  • Refinery operations to purify petro-chemicals.

  • Ore Processing plants

  • Smelters to produce better metals

- And the Rangers are complaining about the glut of civilization now...

----

- Anyways, it would be infeasible to have so many different resource types floating around.

- I'm sure the database containing the existing resource types is already quite large (one row for each named type that still exists in the game system)...

- It's doubtful the developers would implement something that would make it even larger.

Perhaps they should add our creature harvest to the quality of the resource we harvest. Then it would be more profitable to become a master. I dont like the system that is at work today, when every player can get his hand on every resource no matter the qua, just aslong as it is in game people can get it.

I personally think this need to change, some skill trees will make you able to harvest some resources, then we would get a more versitile market. Today the only difference between a master ranger and a person who only got novice scout is the ammount of resource we get from the creature, we should be better at skinning the creature, at getting the meat out store it better etc.

- There was a suggestion to migrate the higher quality resources to the more advanced planets, to solve this problem.

- There would still be a chance of high quality material appearing on the start planets, but more of a chance of them occurring on more advanced planets.

- That way, those Rangers with the more advanced skills, or the more organized parties, would gleam more benefit from the increased difficult of the higher planets.

- As always, this idea has Rangers on both sides of the argument...

The fly in that ointment though is that you don't need Rangers for getting resources on those planets. It's more efficient to use an elite combat or CH class to convince critters into giving up their hides. Sure they'll get slightly less, but they certainly don't need a ranger to hunt on Endor or Dathomir to gather resources. (and yeah, I see the point about quality improvement factories popping up everywhere, I'd imagine that would be quite ugly, though I wonder if they make elite classes like miner if this won't happen anyway.)

I am a complete Hybrid.

Ranger 4-0-4-2 (dont think trapping is worth it yet, and novice ranger camp (.85 heal) is sufficient.

CH 3-2-0-0 (can use a Graul Mauler)

Master Scout (of course, pre-req of ranger)

Marksman 0-4-0-4 (carbine line)

Medic 4-2-0-0 (high heals with stim b's)

Carbineer 0-3-1-3 (as many points I have left, and Carbine cause its got the best ranges)
