Thread: How to track players?

I just had a question, when I used the tracking ability to search for players I only see the 300 meter closest players or so....

Is there a way to search for specific players? Is there some possibility to not get a whole list of a few hundred players to go through?

And is there a quick command to do the tracking of players?

And the same for animals?

Please help a new aspiring ranger out....

Except all that I like the profession as I see it so far. Just though tracking was a little more effective. Scan a planet with a 300m tracking ability will take forever if you look for a certain player.

Do I have to master ranger for becoming better with tracking?

*EDIT*

I only have tracking 4, but the idea of tracking down my friends made this sound very fun. Besides, it can be good to use when out hunting to track down solo-players in need of help or training. To just name a few things, however the 300m tracking range just makes it pointless since I can see players within 300m most of the time.

The best you can do is 500 m circular from the spot you are standing in.1 circular klick. For Master Rangers.

The fast command is /ar; then you still have to pick players, and no, none of the stuff you asked is possible as of yet. Not a flame, but think about it. We track based on the sign/spoor left by our quarry. If "Joe Baggadonuts" has not been near the area you are searching, you can't track him - hard to track what hasn't been there.

The same for animals, only if they haven't spawned yet, you can't see em. Means you can do /ar, see zilch, move literally two feet and some spawn right right next to you. Been there, done that.

It's not a perfect tool. Don't freaking ask for waypoints, you need them, go become an Image Designer - friendly warning. (Inside joke also - but I mean it) If you want to track Jedi for BHs, your best bet is to know the area they like to hide in, then do a search grid til you find them. Works for me anyhow.

Why would I want to track a jedi? I am no Bounty-Hunter....

Just thinking this is a time where people actually do have spaceships and energy-based beam weapons. I just felt 300m was a little low distance for tracking. And if I dont ask I wont know, right?

If I wanted waypoints I would ask people why I dont get them, I really though and have seen that ranger is a profession of nobility. But imagine this, I am out in the wild, someone cries for help. I really wanted to use my ranger ability to track them down and run to their aid! Would add to the flavour. This is after all the future.

And waypoints by the way, I get distance and what direction, all you need with a little basic skill in vectors. It is one of the fun things about tracking, that you actually have to track.

I think you should work on your manners for I didn't like the hostile tone, some of us actually enjoy being rangers, but wants to make sure we actually get the best possible out of the profession, thereof the questions.

So I take it you write: /ar see <ANIMAL> for a quicker way of tracking?!'

Can you do the same for people and players? So that you can avoid the list that is simply time wasting to use. Like a ranger should be able to pinpoint one person in particular and track him down alone, and ignore all other tracks. (Used the tracking ability to find a ranger trainer by the way so I like it so far.)

* I think you said no about pinpointing a special player/people in particular, was that so?

There is no command for tracking specifc things. The best you can get is /ar (as JB said) which will bring up the selection menu. There is no command shortcut to track specific things. I.e. there is no /areatrack Players, /aretrack People, or /areatrack Animals.

You went too far....

My questions were legit as I WAS an aspiring ranger, I did not fail to mention that at all. Your abuse however was not legit.
