Thread: Probably old idea to replace 'repel aggro' feature in camps

I would like to consider myself active reader, but can't remember that a proposal along the following lines would have been tossed forward. If it has, apologies for the repetition.

All of the camps, starting with the lowest scout camps all the way up to the HTFB boast a tentof some sort ending up in several neat looking huts in the HTFB. These tents/huts are non-enterable. (Some may guess where I am heading)

From what I can fathom 'repel aggro' to be meant to be used fororiginally by the developerswould have been to allow players a breather in camp i.e. not to have to worry that the nasty Gorax comes stomping on your head while you cook that kreetle you harvested yesterdayand rest a bit.

Would it be useful to propose to replace 'repel aggro' with a radial option on the tents/huts that could be used when the player is not aggroed and it would allow 'entering' the tent and one would be there entirely unattackable and untargettable.

Different level camps would allow different number of players to enter the tents like 1 for the lowest Scout camp and up to what ever is the max amount of people in a group for HTFB. Maybe wounds could heal a little bit faster while in tent.

The toons that entered tents would disappear from the 'world' and be untargettable and unattackable, also for the duration the camp is up the players in tents would not be kicked out of the game due to inactivity. The rest of the UI would be normally usable - chat features, inventory, crafting tools etc. When one would want to exit the tent, it would be done through radial menu or if the camp times out all inhabitants would be dropped back to world. If a camp holds overt players it would show in description and also amount of people in tents would be visible. If several people tried to get out of the tents at the same time, there would be 10s timer at which rate the tent would allow the people to exit and maybe 30s timer during which the exitter could not attack anyone.

Or if multiple people in tents would enable too many ways to grief, maybe only the camp creator could enter the tent - for me that would be enough but for playing purposes it would be nicer to have possibility to store many people in tents. There seems to be plenty of room in the constructions.

I was trying to think how this would give possibilities to grief, but only could come up with a situation where a full group of people are hiding in the camp and exiting on top of someone attackable. I am sure there would be more ways to use this feature in a 'wrong' way but could not think of more.

I kinda like this idea. Would be a bit of a pain to put in though, I think. But the concept is certainly sound - and would give camps an extra oomph.

Like it too... If it is made so even BF can healed when in a tent (for Force sake, a entertainer can heal BF also within ANY home)... It will boost the idea of havinh a ranger tag along!

good idea, however, the basic problem with "exiting the world" in a sense, would be if the ranger (or camper in any case) would be able to interact with the outside world. ie: attacking critters, inviting people in a group, or other type of technical problems.

Here is my thought on the repellant idea.

There is already a special that will drive off critters "threaten shot" i think it is. I would have the laser fence around the campsite have an automatic "threaten shot" effect.

If the critter crosses the barrier, it takes damage and is scared off. The ranger then has the opportunity to either engage or ignore the incursion.

Just my thoughts.

good idea.

hmm actually might not be a big pain if the camp structures were instanced

Though I dont like NOT being able to see who is coming. As an Overt I would want to pop out of my hut and find a Imperial Jedi with his saber at my throat . I dont like people sneaking up on me while I was nibbling on those Kreetle leftovers.

However if the tents/huts could be like the enterable huts/tents I see in NPC spawns, that would be cool.

As far as the 'repel aggro' thing is concerned, the Field Bases need to make use of those sheild thingies they have (make them more than decorations). They need to be able to stun & repel critters (but not damage them). Maybe even be able to stun NPCs or players that try to cross while they are turned on (make the base require something akin to a larger PSG to drive the sheilds)

That 'threaten shot' kinda functionality for the fence would also do the trick I am after - it would need toconvey the effectevery time a critter touches the fence and not so that there is a chance the fence will hit the creature.

What I have read over the time conserning the fence and the repellant effect has been that it was turned on in the beginning and was found to be exploited and was discontinued shortly after launch. Still I also read that developers may do simple changes to our profession and since I love the idea of being able to rest in camps in safety I thought I try to find a simple way to give us something along those lines.

What came to mind as the simplest implementation solution was that maybe the radial menu would 'teleport' the toon to the middle of the hut - HTFB huts are high enough, this would look rather silly in the first level scout camp. The hut/tent graphic would thenbe given the properties of aprivate building - correct me if I am wrong that people in private buildings areuninteractablefrom violence point of view from the outsideand someone entering the building will retain the target that they had when outside but cant much interact with it - viola. The game interface allows us to zoom out of the toon and at least if you go stand smack in the middle of a crafting station you are out of view, but can still zoom out and see what is happening pretty normally. This way an overt camper would not need to worry about getting surprised but just remember to zoom out of the toon's field of view before exiting and checking what is going on.

Anyway, I would really love to get the repellant effect to the fence, but if that is not coming something else doing the same trick would be good enough for me too.

actually, the so called "exploit" of this (the overts hiding, then ambushing someone) would be a great tactic for PvP base defense. So, once again, Rangers can participate in the GCW, and we are still a "support" class.
