Thread: I am enjoying the wilderness tree

I was dreading doing the survival tree after hearing the complaints about how long it took.

Before I started survival I was majorly stressed out thinking about how much money I was missing out on by not harvesting the latest herb spawn non-stop, how I had been spending too much money, and all of my other in game obligations to the guild.

As I was sitting there in camp, I began pondering all my real life obligations as well. I started realizing how my crazy grinding frenzy in the game was partially a way to block out dealing with real life issues. After sitting in the camp, enjoying the relaxation of the great outdoors, problems that had been plaging me and had been put off in the back of my mind for so long, suddenly all had solutions that were very easy.

Here I was sitting in a tent in a game, next to a lake, just relaxing and fishing and letting all my troubles go to the wayside. During this time I realized that nothing in the world mattered except this tent and that pond and these fish and my friend. I had been so stressed about spending too much in game money that day, yet I still had 2 million in my account and needed nothing in the world except bone, hide, a little metal a pond and my pole. I suddely felt very rich and very at ease.

I know now that when the world get turned up on edge and there seems like there is no way out, I can just run off to my retreat out by the lake, make a camp, and my troubles will all melt away.

I think I am going to like hanging out in this forum with guys like you lot. This place seems a lotmore pleasantthan the other ones.

I know exactly what you mean about the time to think about stuff while camping as well. I will often take myself out to somewhere remote and (relatively) safe, put myself on afk with a polite little message, get rid of the HUD and just sit there while I do other stuff like my uni work. Very relaxing to look up to from time to time.

I wasn't a Ranger before starting the FS Grind. I took up Ranger as a way to have some fun in the game. Then I realized I don't want to grind.

I want my game time to be fun, and not seem like another job.

I have 2+ Tree's done in FS, but am thinking of giving them up to recover the SP and go back to having some Medic abilities.

I've found myself dropping a camp, turning the speakers up on my machine here, pushing the chair back to recline and just chilling out. Listening to the sound of my lowland bol, Fluffy, snoozing by the fire. The crackle of the fire than never goes out or sparks at you. Tilt the back of my chair to recline and just snooze.

That or read my post, pay my bills, write some emails and browse through the newspapers.

Funny old way to get XP, eh?

I decided to pitch a camp on Amidala's private beach the other day as I was flying by it on my speeder. I built it on the smallest island such that the mound of earth under the camp "raised" the island up a bit and it was pretty neat. I just sat there for a bit, admiring the view. I took a snapshot of myself. I left the keyboard for a bit, but when I returned I noticed that someone had waved at me while I was gone. I sent him a brief tell, something like "Sorry I missed you, but I stepped away" and had a brief conversation with him.

Although I usually don't AFK camp, I will sometimes leave the keyboard for a bit. Before I disband, I always check the status to see if there were any visitors. I'm always surprised when the number of visitors is 2 or higher and then I'll wonder what sort of mystery person passed through my camp while I was not paying attention.

As others have often said, camping was such a joy in the early stages of the game. Campers were everywhere! You'd happen upon someone camped in the wilderness or near a town and you'd stop in for a chat. Nowadays, if someone sees you camping, they assume you're doing it for the XP. I've had folks drive their speeder in and out of my camp while passing by and say, "I figured you could use the XP." I'm tempted to say, "Thank you, but that's not the sole reason I'm here."

When I started Ranger recently, I wondered if I would ever complete the Wilderness line. The way I see it is "Maybe I will, maybe I won't."Finishing isnot really the point. When I was a BH, I imagined the same thing about Investigation. In the end, I never finished it. I didn't enjoy it. Oddly enough, I find I enjoy camping more than I thought I would. If I never master Ranger, I'll still be able to say that I've never done anything in SWG that I didn't enjoy.

Camping is awesome.

I just wish that there was more call for it during hunting (like when I was a noob and didn't know about buffs). In fact... hunting unbuffed and camping is awesome. It's also a great way for me to handle guild matters and mails.

Aaaah the joys of camping.
