I keep hearing from other rangers that rifleman is the best profession to have with ranger. Im TK and have fun being it, but they have told me to change to rifleman cuase the perks are better. However they didnt get into much detail. Could any of you you eplain whats makes it so good to have above the rest?

First Rule of Rangerdom: You play it the way YOU enjoy.
The different combat professions all have their fans and, just sometimes, they'll think that anyone else using any other type of combat is just plain getting it wrong. If you enjoy TK, hey, go for it.
Now, what's Rifleman got going for it? Well, you can chuck out huge damage against creatures while concealed and so avoiding any damage (apart from the cost of your specials). You have a slection of damage types and, to an extent, can target the different HAM pools to match up with other playerss OR do the most damage.
However, TK has the advantage of being in close for harvesting, being able to mitigate a lot of damage from melee, having meditate to repair yourself... A TKM will be able to take on pretty much any creature ingame, apart form the insanely tough, or the Peko Peko Albatross (100% resist to kinetic attack). By the same token, so could a rifleman.

I've done both Rifles and TK....currently a TKM with my Master Ranger. I prefer the TKM. There's just something to going into a lair masked.......walking right up to it and spamming unarmed spin attack that's so satisfying (and quick).
It takes up a huge HAM cost though, so 90% of the time, I have to buff to go out hunting.
Though the speed is what helps me with those resource contracts.
I do think that once I get a nice little bank account back again, I may pick up Rifles again and get back to hunting with strategy instead of sheer brute force.

It depends on how you like to play predominately. I have several different characters and one is a Master Rifleman and one is a TKM. Suffice it to say until we see really what happens with the GCW and big Combat Upgrade we can only go by what is currently the case. If I see an advantage to Rifleman it is that you have a wider variety of damage types, higher damage at slower pace, but primarily in PvE where Camoflauge used with conceal shot can be one very deadly combination. In all out toughness TKA is better, with more defenses and if in trouble use that great Terrain negotiation to get the heck out of dodge.
So really it is your style of play and preferences. If you are really into PvE and like Camo then I would go with Rifleman since the only thing camo is good for with a TKA is to sneak up and initiate the fight but after that they know you are there and where you are.

I was a TKM/Master Ranger for a long time, but a couple of weeks ago I traded TKM for Master Rifleman. Both profs are great. They both have a wide range of advantages and disadvantages, which I won't go into since Almagill already covered it. Like he said-- do what's fun for you. You like charging into battle and eviscerating your enemies with your bare hands, stick with TK. You wanna hang back and pick your enemies off one by one before they even realize they're under attack, go with rifleman. Both professions compliment Ranger very well, and it all comes down to your personal preference.
If you're wondering why I traded one for the other, well, there were a couple of reasons. I wanted to try something new, and my guild (which is very small) had two Master Ranger/TKM's. So now I'm enjoying a new profession, and we have a little more diversity within our group. Plus, after seeing my first berserker rifle, I knew I had to have one.
Whatever you decide, have fun with it.

Well - never having played either (I don't think TC Ki'ara counts yet with Scout 2000, Marksman Rifles IV), I can't judge which is 'better' but I can say that playing your own game is great fun. I've been a pistoleer nut since before the game was released, and have always had a pistol skillset on my main. Regardless of the damage amount (or lack thereof) that I can put out, it is FUN so I keep it. NOw that I have paired it with Ranger, N. Medic, and a tank droid, I can't imagine anything else. (Except of course when I want to teach an Acklay who's boss, then it's 'Reki-time' - Master Swordsman)

As a former Rifleman Ranger now TKM Ranger I have to say as a Rifleman I could solo tons of stuff without buffs or hardly ever getting a wound. Many damage types make it a great profession for doing lots of damage while a tank holds it at bay. The reason I dropped it for TKM was for the meditation. I hate getting poisoned or diseased and having to waste ten minutes waiting for it to stop. As a TKM I am way more proficient as a hunter since I can kill very fast and meditation healing wounds, poisons, diseases, and powerboost makes it great for me since I hate having to go get buffs.

I just recently started to switch from TK to Rifleman. I was on TC-Bria using the blue frogs to try out the Master Ranger - Master Rifleman template and I had a blast. Took out an entire ST patrol (no there was no super ST there) and a AT-ST by myself. I never could have done that with TKM. I would /conceal /cover /concealshot crawl to ideal range of next target and /concealshot. Only got fired on by the AT-ST and I just ran like a little girl hitting /peace until it stopped chasing and went back to resume the fight. I'm already enjoying the change. It's the first change to my TKM-MR template in several months.
