Today I wend for a jaunt on Endor. Normally the roaming STs are little more than a nuisance but post crackdown-beef up things are different.
First off, there are now AT-STs hanging out with the ST patrols
Secondly there is at least 1-2 Nova Troopers hanging out with the ST patrols now. In itself not really news.
This affects ranger how?
They detected me ,and aggroed at 64m, with camo on while under cover (Im Master Ranger, with LOTS of + Camo skill tapes on my gear). I cound not get into sniping range w/o being detected and aggroed.
The Nova trooper hit me twice with 900+ damage (I was food buffed only with ranger clothes, no armor). I was incapped with the second hit before I could return fire.
Interesting enough, the Trooper did NOT DB me, even though it walked directly to me.
I saw this happen with the AT-ST I killed after that (I got a wild hare idea, and ran my speeder bike between the legs of the AT-ST while Overt). It incapped me quickly but again, i was not DB'ed.
Normally I would find these ST patrols and hang back and snipe the hell out of them. The additon of the Nova Trooper in their midst has made this MUCH more challenging (not to mention the AT-ST).
I watch the patrol for a while and noticed that the patrols dont seem to bunch up the way they used to, the STs would actually get strung out in a line, making it possible to focus on the rear of the column and pick off the stragglers.
But soloing the whole column with that Nova in there, well havent figured out how to do that yet, but I was able to take out the AT-ST and abiout 1/4 of the column w/o aggroing the Nova Trooper.

It is amusing to note that a full squad of STs on Endor still cannot take down Arachenae web masters.
Basically would aggro an nest of them run to the ST patrol, then get them to fight. Invariably, the STs would get owned hehe (can do this either by aggroing a ST and taking him to the buggers or vice versa. Its a real hoot if there is nest in the middle of it all.
And if you are so inclined, take pot shots at the STs while they are engaged and collect some free faction points as the buggers kill them. (its not a great way to gain faction, but is is a fun diversion every now and then)

Much fun when some overt Imp popped his big musclebound Trooper out in town the other day. He was all flustered. muahahaha
I don't get it. Some wandering stormtroopers helped a guildie and I get rid of some unsavory animals and people that were loitering about our guildhall, so I high-fived one of them after the battle. I got fined 1500 credits and lost 5 faction points. Maybe it was because I was but a lowly Imperial Master Sergeant at the time?

ROFL, oddly enough, I've been thinking about going back that way. I was an Imp WOII for a while but got tired of being ganked by scummy rebs in town. The sort that whip out a pet kimo to 'tank' unbuffed unarmoured Imperial tailors...
Anyway, I've been with the Alliance for a while now, but the perks are measly. And I can always grind FP out of the Imp Oasis without too much grief... hmm... tempting it is. Haven't done the Imp theme park yet... well, mayne, after I get Alliance Ace. (be a long time, lol)
Oh, and as for ST patrols being good tanks? Yup, I know. I feel it is my duty, as a covert Alliance member, to stir up as much trouble for them as I can. Pulling a piket or two into a group on Dant then having the audacity to go in and harvest the corpses, hey, it's nothing personal, just using the opportunities presented to me by the Empire

At the moment I can go out and hunt while covert, scout ahead for my group if we're going after bases, or just live in Espa. Once the "attack on sight" changes come in for the GCW that's probably no longer going to be possible.
Planets with a high Imperial presence will be a no go area for formerly covert rebels, the crackdown troopers make it suicidal to try and clear a patrol out of an area. Walking out of the starport in Espa would be suicide.
The only thing that gives me hope is that, by using /ar, I should be able to avoid patrols and still be able to check out the Imp bases from a distance. But, for the most part, I think dying fast is going to get old quick. Och well.

Yea I wont go near Espa or Bestine now.
Shopping as an Overt is a bit tricky, have to make sure if I shop Corellia or Naboo, to land in a remote starport and camo up as soon as I land and travel overland to my shopping spots
It is fun playing a Overt Rebel Ranger, adds quite a bit to the stealth nature of the profession, and adds extra incentive for me to stay in the wild, and to snipe Imp crackdown patrols. (me and my spec ops wilderness operative helper hehe)

Yes, the crackdown is very exciting ! I get scanned at least once a day now.... It's a lot of fun !! I was hunting in Yavin last night and a Probot scanned me... As I had just returned overt after a scan in Tat, I decided to kill the bot, but it managed to "run" away from me... I have never experienced that before !
Anyway, it called forreinforcements and a Lambda landed (almost on my head), dumping 13 ST's where of two were the black ones with the white stripes....
OUCH !
Thanks to burst run, I made it out from there alive !
Finally, when they stopped following me, I saw that one of those baddies had separated himself from the rest of the troops, so I went back after him.
Eventually after "teasing" him enough we had our confrontation..... The AI seem to have been tweaked, my first attempts to attack failed as he was trying to lure me back to where the rest of the ST's were... even though I was trying to work him away from them. I must say, it was fun !
For some reason, he didn't do me a lot of damange except for once.... However, I didn't want to stretch my luck so I engaged him carefully (keeping an eye for the rest of the red dots).
I welcome the crackdown..... It's a lot of fun, and really look forward to the TEF revamp
Ps, Camo works nice on ST's... even though the high level ST's do break it, but only once.
