Thread: mask scent vs camo kits

i had a master ranger put camo kit on me while i was searching for dna on dathomir. he told me that it helped against npcs but it kept being broken not even after travelling more than 500m. my own mask scent with some jawa beer seemed to work better for me although i know its not for npcs.
anyway my question is what is up with camo kits? i have not used any in the past so i have nothing to compare this experience to but is it normal for it to be broken so easily? i had the kit applied five times lasting no longer than just over a min at which time i just said forget it and went with mask scent. and another thing, why cant mask scent be used with camo kits? and lastly, does mask scent use your camouflage mod at all? if not then i choose being a bothan for all the wrong reasons.

Your mask scent will protect you from detection by creatures only. Cammo gives a degree of protection against NPC too.
The chances of a creature or NPC 'rolling' a detect against you while cammoed seems to be based on CL and your (not the rangers) cammo ability. (Possibly mask scent ability counts too, dunno for sure but instictively I'd say not)
A high level NPC, and lets face it, on Dath what isn't, and a non-ranger character are going to have a far higher chance of being detected than a Master Ranger / low level NPC. Some NPC's do seem to be able to ignore cammo completely (legend suggests its the FS ones though the Sith can be totally fooled).
If the Ranger is grouped with you and has enough kits they can stay a good distance away and slap a fresh cammo on your char as soon as it breaks. Might be worth considering.
Also, your posture and whther you are mounted / diving / running can also affect the chance of detection. Makes sens, apart from exposing you to more creatures and NPC's, that you're going to be spotted quicker screaming past on a swoop than down in the dirt giving it the slow crawl...
