Thread: The CU: Trying to find a silver lining

Well, there's been a lot of junk going around about how rangers are getting screwed with the combat upgrade. And yes, for the moment, it's true- rangers are getting a kick in the rear and, until the Ranger revamp, we'll most likely be on our knees rendered completely useless in combat. But there are a few things we have to be happy about with the upcoming upgrade.

1. Line of Site: Put in short, despite negative reports on line of site mechanics from TC testers, Rangers will have an andavantage in uneven terrain by being able to traverse the distance on a mountain quickly, thus getting the target in their site much quicker than non rangers.

2. Armor Diversity: This aint much mroe than eye candy, but I for one am tired of beak faced armor suits everywhere. I have been experimenting with mixing different armor types, and I have a feeling the game is really gonan come to life in a Starwars-sih way with a lot of different armor types running around.

3. T^he End of SUper Buffs: Before, lets face it, a fight was won or lost by the duration of your buff. For most people, super buffs were essential to do any real hunting. Now that they are getting the can, our camo skill, despite some lacking, will be more useful, as people will actually have to worry about aggresive baddies. This leads into the next advantage....

4. Group Hunting Emphasis: Again, no more super buffs, no more super soloers. Rangers, having always been termed as supporters, will be a bit more helpful in groups than they are now. Or at least, that's what they're hoping.

5. The end of the great Ranger Fad: That's right, people who aren;t devoted are gonna drop like flies over... well, like flies. This is a good thing if you are embracing the eliteness of the Ranger Profession, and a bad thing if you are an active tailor. Either way, we will see some mad inflation on hides. Sure, it'll screw up the economy, but that might get the devs to pay attention to us.

6. I have run out of idead.

Well, that's all I can think of. If you have anything to add, go ahead, but please dont come andcomplainabout anything. This is possibly the one thread where we can take a break from complaining, so take advantage of it.

Yep, and all of that could have been achieved in publishes/hotifxes. None of it required the entire combat revamp.

Not complaining, just not being blindly optimistic!

1. Scouts have the same ability to traverse uneven terrain as rangers.

2. Hell, i normally use different armours. At least my padded out to come out alright post-CU

3. Our camo wont be useful, unless your idea of fun is running around camoing people in a group as their camo breaks whilst they do all the fighting.

4. Rangers, not having any real useful skills to add to a group (except the great sacrifice yourself skill - rescue), nor any decent health, nor camo that works great, nor traps that dont only work on creatures, nor camps that actually serve any purpose nowadays, will not be invited to groups as other more useful professions will.

5. What great ranger fad - I havent seen one. And whats wrong with people deciding to dabble or go master ranger? The more the merrier as far as im concerned, that way there are more people in a broken profession needing the revamp.

Meat and hide will cost more. Yay, more millions for me.

It will be harder to harvest. Yay, less dabblers.

We get gimped on health - booo.

We get hosed on skill points - booo.

We get ignored as usual - booo.

We lost Mando - eh, who cares?

We get armor that is about useless - eh, again, who cares? Real men don't wear armor.

Buffs get gimped - Yay, no more KS by 12 y/o retardates...uh...BHs in armor with buffs. Real men don't need buffs.

Line of sight is in - semi yay. Tactics will win some fights for a change.

Traps are more important - yay. small yay tho. I knew this all along.

Final score - as we said in the military, one oh sh*t equals 10 atta-boys. Too many oh sh*ts and not enough atta-boys.

Good for us if we can get it, but that cost will be transfered over to every customer buying the stuff. I don't think that's so good for the general population.

New buffs will max at 20%. 3000 + 20% = 3600. We are all now perma buffed.

Legendary weapons are being scaled into the new system.

You will still be pwnerized by 12 year olds.

Oh ya and because your combat level will be lower his, that criter will be hiting you for more damage than the 12 year old.

In terms of the CU, I believe one of two things is going to happen to rangers, and you can decide which you think is better:

1. Rangers are going to continue having master scout as a pre-req, in which case they are going to be a woefully underpowered profession, and very unpopular. The upside of that of course is little or no dabblers, and the abilities that you do have will be unique, and to be a ranger will be special.

2. The master scout pre-req will become a two-line pre-req (maybe hunting and exploration?)like nearly every other profession, and open the flood gates to people "cherry picking" from the tracking line of ranger. Ranger will be a lot more popular, ranger won't be near as disadvantaged, but lots and lots of people will have the "signature" ranger abilities and the class will become an "add-on" for others.

If the pre reqs get dropped down a bit i still am keeping master scout. Sure i could reallocate into other skills to get more health but that just wouldn't feel right to me personally.

Oh bloody milk. Way to go on finding the silver lining.

Maybe I am being blindly optimistic, but Ihave no choice but to believe that the devs have got all this worked out somehow. In any case, even if they don't, I would sonner quit than drop ranger. So that is my take on this. If none of you can find any good in this, fine, but at least keep it to yourself.

Interesting that you bought up milk, has anyone tried that on TC yet? I can see it now.. You calm the creature... you begin to milk the creature... the creature kicks over your milk bucket and stool and stomps on you for 1000 points of damage,

Those of that are working hard at testing, and it seems even our Cors to some degree are are so burnt out that trying to look for the good is a bit much to ask.

I was all carebear optimistic untill I spent a few days in the trenches so to speak. If you want to say optimistic don't go near TC for a while. Its an abyss of yet unanswered questions, that seem to have little chance of bringing pleasant answers.

Once we know what is going on then we can try and look for the silver lining. Untill then its just going to feel like cracking a dirty joke at a funeral.

Nothing personal, thanks for trying

Nothing in the CU leads me to believe that the so-called "Ranger Revamp" will touch our combat effectiveness.

They saw fit to give us a armor cert in the CU. Don't you think they would have given us CL as well if that was their plan?

We got the battle armor cert since we had the mando cert allready.

Nobody here can convince me they left out the CL increase cause they thought giving it to the biggest skill point sink in the game would cause the l33t-d0dZ to flock to Ranger
