Well after Dropping PBCFR to my nephew. I decided to take another Alt to Master Ranger. Started 3 days ago. Now understand I had some old crated traps so i didnt have to harvest and craft yadda yadda. Im Master ranger now. And I find its Lack Luster getting there. When PB got his Master tag it was a long time comin, And it was Pride that I felt. Took him 6 mos I think.

Now it's more disgust. I didnt have to set up a camp once. Before i knew it Hunting Wooley hide for a Armorsmith that needed it i was havin to get to a trainer.

Now i know what the New players are saying. Oh sure your full temp and made it blahh blahh. Well understand ive done this 3 times now. And survival xp was a part of the Grind if you will. You sat in your camp making traps. talking to new players. Helping on hunts. It was a fun long grind for lack of a better word.

Im prob beating a dead horse here but. Its sad how quick I made it. I dont think i can look at anouther Master ranger with a Stright face that says it was a Journey. Cuz it was not. Unless walking to you mail box infront of you house is a journey to you.

oh goody.

Maybe we should arrange a mass camp out south of Coronet, in memory of days past...Ranger is a profession I always wanted to do, I did it on my original toon but didnt master it, just recently did it on an Alt and im in the same boat but even respecced the trapping part so im just a fake.

Still a nice prof, and it supports my AS, but not as fulfilling as it used to be for me for some reason.

Ah, the good ole' days of a long hard survival grind that felt like you had to survive to do it. I suppose you'll just have to look upon Masters more for how long they've kept their title, rather than how quickly they achieved their title.

/agree

The way its going for me Trapping is turning out like Survival xp. Its the longest part of my grind. My fault for not useing traps more often

well it is slower solo - resources make a big difference. I often do missions to pay for training so I can be a little slower to train if say I don't have the cash. /me shrugs. I'm working more on Rifle atm, than I am Ranger - due to the unfortunate difficulties with surviving with Ranger alone ><

But to get to my point, it took maybe a week to master Carbine (on my WH toon) - mostly because I didn't always hunt with other people. If I'd stuck with my friends constantly I doubt it would have taken more than two days. Now mind that's with a lot of hunting (aka 'grinding') but that particular character can easily afford training. Can afford the best weapons. Can afford several deaths, insurance, cloning etc etc.

Anyway, it's not just Ranger. Sometimes I think it's all of SWG. This is from the perspective of someone who's been gone a good bit - maybe 8 months and just came back shortly after the CU. Even taking into account resources and knowledge it seems very much like it's gotten easier to raise 'insert skill here'.

I miss tents being useful. I had a ton of Wilderness XP (I left after they changed Survival to Wilderness). I noticed right away that making tents and traps and fishing still gave wilderness xp - I haven't checked recently, maybe they finally simply converted it to general crafting or scout xp. After changes of that magnitude I'm surprised they left Trapping xp in! But then traps would be totally useless as no one would bother. /me sighs. I really like traps too - always have, hence going Ranger. Anything that helps me solo = good! I was quite miffed when I came back and saw how many traps they'd changed/nerfed/broken. I'm still not completely certain that the CU didn't kill the majority of them. I mean, before I was master marksman (more because I couldn't make up my darn mind!) and one lep dart (?been a while I forget) that hit effectively and a lucky head shot with my rifle meant the critter went down. Then I just had to worry about its friends lol.

Bleh this morning ramble brought to you by lack of coffee. /rant

I have to say that I agree that it's sad that with joining a group with one CL80 person in it, anyone can bang out mad combat, scout, and weapons Xp in one session. I recently decided to try Ranger as a profession when the MBH profession seemed to be all about hunting Jedi (and since I don't like PvP, that was not interesting for me) and decided to start from scratch since I only had the Explore tree needed for MBH. I dropped Smuggler which was my secondary profession before and from all appearances I ground out Ranger the 'old way'. I went into the wild, threw traps at low level creatures, harvested and crafted my own traps after setting up a camp and then went after repeated the above process. This process took me well over three weeks to complete, closer to a month now that I think about it.

I have to admit that earning my way to MRanger solo was very rewarding in terms of how I play my template! If I had beena part of a group, I'd never have figured out which combos work best on what creatures, what traps are best against specific targets and terrain, etc... While I admit that camps seem pointless to 'grinders', I just liked the look of my camo-ed out ranger sitting around the campfire making his traps from freshly harvested kills. I think that the main thing lacking from this game overall is the Role Playing aspect of the MMORPG. The people I seem to be encountering are either hell bent on gaining Jedi or just focused on becoming the ultimatebuck bada$sof PvP'ers... I'll stop now before Iembark on a bitter rant against 'grinders' and 'campers'.
