I'm kind of torn on what profession to choose I just got to Carbine Specialist but I started off as a scout. I"m advanice in it quite nicely actually. I do enjoy going around hunting animals and getting xp and resources. Sqaud leader sounded cool, then so did BH but Ranger sounds more like what I do now. I tend to just walk around the planets alot exploring and killing things.

Ranger is sort of like an explorer right?

Although most of the ranger community is hoping for future changes, the following is a fair description of a ranger:

With some exceptions ranger is simply a better scout.

If you like scouting, stick with your max scouting skills and spend your skill points in other areas. If you LOVE scouting and want to get the most resources from every kill to haggle sales with artisans or fill the bazaar with a mountain of hides to subsidize your mission income, or if you like setting up camps to serve a large group of friends, then try ranger.

Dont join ranger to be able to be able to trap better than a scout, dont join ranger because you think you will be able to move stealthily through dangerous lands. At this time both of those abilities are non-functional and if you demand any sort of immediate satisfaction you will be disappointed.

I would like to turn my alt character into a ranger, but I noticed on the character builder there are no defence bonus? or accuracy bonuses in this profession?

So? how do you guys hunt with only 1 combat profession? (assuming double elite).

From the looks of it all a ranger can do is find the critter, and run uphill really fast...

I am not at home so I can check the in game descriptions of the skill boxes. Is there any defences build into this class?

think there is a +10 ranged/melee defensein the master box

Add to insult there are NO recovery skills, which means if something pushes you over, you will remain on your bum for quite a while.

Also at.. 0020 I think there is a ranged +5 or +10 accuracy vs.creature bonus.

and that's all folks.

the defensive bonuses only apply at master ranger (+10 to ranged and melee defense) unfortunately, the developers dont see us as a combat class, but as a combat support class...

hopefully we will get some combat viability because right now we really dont

I dont understand their thinking, Rangers arent crafters... they hunt animals, hunting means fighting..

Wow, think I'll just get the tracking line.

Well we do get bonuses to hit creatures (don't have the number off hand). As to how we do it..well it depends on how you play. I personally am Master Ranger\Master BH (for the weapon mods and defense)\Squad Leader 0300 (for the defense). Works out really well PvE....not so much PvP. Many Rangers are Riflemen or Creature Handlers, but you could combine it with say, TKM with katarn knuckers and you would do really well as well (if all you wanted to do is PvE).
