So.. here's the deal, I am thinking about being a Ranger. when i saw SWG for the first time at a friends place i always wanted to be a Ranger sounded so much fun, wlakingon these wild planets uncatchable by wild critters now i've been playing the game for 3 months...been M pistoleer, M fencer, M Combat Medic, M TKA.....M carbineer....just to much..and about a dozen times if thought about becoming a Ranger...

I've beent rying to read trough all the post about bugs and it only dampened my spirit in becoming one...the i read this topic about milking on endor and all and setting myself or hire...i though...wow that sounds like fun to do

I'm currently a Master Pistoleer/Master Fencer/TKA x4xx which gives me uber melee defense thinking about dropping Fencer and TKA and go for Master ranger with Master pistoleer...and afterwards dropping Master Pistoleer and go for CH instead...could you guys/gals give some feedback..o advice..cuzz im totally new to the ranger/scout industry

Often the fourms are a place for bad news, hate and discontent.... that is why I rarely post here. but.... I have been playing for 2 years, my main char is jedi, my alt is master ranger/master rifle. I like it a lot. I havnt hired my self out yet, but help friends a lot finding stuff. As far a what others think.... You be what you want to be!!!

The forums are a great place to get advice, see what works, and find out some tricks... once you weed through all the flaming, BS, and complaining that is LOL

have fun with your game!!!!

Back in the old days, before the CU, a Ranger would be like this "Hey, I don't wear armour (I don't even own any)... haven't had a buff in months, just relie on a crate of brandy, my trusty rifle and the fact I can outrun anything but the fastest cats to make sure I don't spend too much time healing in town. Money? Never need it. Sure, it's nice, but I can make enough to get by by hauling meat of herbivores for an hour or two to keep me going for another month or so. I just love wandering about, camo on, rooting about in old caves and round lairs... it's just, well, cool..."

Then the CU happened, harvest yields went up, everyone needed to get rich NOW and hey look, I can solo krayts... and things changed.

For a long time the Ranger Forum was a place where people had this attitude "yeah, Rangers broken, what's your problem? We just get on with it and enjoy the profession despite it's challenges..." then more and more peoples will crumbled under the relentless cries of "we don't got no dev love, teh devs hateses us...they hates us precious...".

People saw other professions getting attention. They saw them get new toys, new dances, new widgets (and conveniently forgot to notice the stuff that was taken away, broken or just made plain pointless). And so the volume of the negative posts went up.

Over the past couple of months I've seen a LOT of the old timers just give up posting on the baord anymore, or, if they do it's in the Hat and Trivia type threads.

Anyway, all that is Forum Ranger stuff...

So.

You WANT to be a Ranger, eh?

Go for it! It's never been easier to get Master Ranger than it is now, since they removed the need to camp your way through the Wilderness Survival line anyway.

You've got good combat skills, so kill everything you can, harvest it, and if you're not filling a box or more per session you're slacking. Make sure you start combat with a trap and keep applying the sacred P-Dart to keep the critters a bit on the slow side, if they live long enough for the effect to wear off that is.

You want to be a Ranger?

Just remember, it's a profession, not a lifestyle.

I have to agree with Almagill. If you think it's a profession you might like, just give it a shot. Yes, the boards have been negative for a while, but I've been rangerin for allmost 2 years now and still have a good time. And as Almagill said, use traps, they really help (when they work ). Also, I'm almost a MPistoleer and part Ranger and I'm gooing ok solo, just make sure you have a good pistol and don't take on dragons untill you're CL80. Anyway, try it and see for yourself, the best way to buld an oppinion.

What they said

I've wanted to be a Ranger every since they announced Space and flying wouldn't be in Star Wars at launch. The only other things that looked interesting were Scout and Chef. After a while I figured Scout lead to Ranger and Ranger was even better than Scout!

I actually like traps and using them so that appealed to me as well. As did (does) the fact that there really aren't that many Rangers. Higher yield harvesting is nice... throwing down a camp and sitting in it a spell is fun... seeing what critters drop (meat/hide etc) is uber for me and my poor memory...

Anyway yeah if you want something different, try it out =) it's definitely more challenging than some 'uber' template!

As for bugs and whatever, also realize a lot of the people who're complaining (rightly or wrongly) have been whatever profession they are for a while, so in some ways I think the luster has faded some. I see this on other boards, not just this one in particular. Heck I see this in all games I've played. It's natural, a bit and frankly there really aren't any professions in SWG *not* broken somewhere/somehow /me shrugs

So that's my two bits =)

Isn't that backwards? Anyway, I wholeheartedly agree with everything these nutters have said. Also, I have a friend who is a Master Ranger/Master Pistolier, and he's damn handy to have on your side in a fight. Good hunting, and have fun.
