How well does this combo work in practice?

I am torn between my rifle and my CH skills unable to take both to a level where I amhappy but at the same time wanting to advanced both to master

I am also assuming that this combo works best with melee rangers.

My biggest gripe with the ranged approach is ranged support. RS 3 and 4 (warning shot and supression fire) are pretty much required in my book. That means best you can do it specialist in one tree and ranged support specialist. This leavs 0 points for medic skills (also nice, but as I have found not entirely needed)

I have resigned myself to the fact that I personally will not contribute a huge amount of damage as a Master Ranger & CH. Actually the tough choice for me was where to spend the remaining points into: Carbine or just have some Carbine skill and some surveying skill (which seems to fit better IMO). I went with latter. I have Survey 2 (192m range), Carbine III (I can use Heat and Energy weapon), put 2 points into Combat I, and left with one. I like surveying, because I can help my guildmates surveying, I do a good business with harvesting water, and I need resources for our [underused] camo kits.

Actually I think you'd be better off with a ranged weapon if you want to dual Master this way. A melee ranger is going to need to stand by the tanking pets and risks getting hit. Since the points you have left over after mastering ranger and CH are few, you'll be a weak melee ranger. Better to be a weak ranged ranger and stand back away from the action.

i have this combo and am torn between what to do with the remaining points. i tried no fighting class at all, didn't work. i tried brawler, but then i realized i mostly had pets for tanks so i don't die, but i was turning myself into a tank.

then i started looking at the gun trees. rifle was no good, because if a creature DID get near me, i never hit it and it gave me a whooping i still feel. i had pistoleer, but everyone is pistoleer so it wasn't that exciting to me. then i looked at the carbineer tree.

with MCH/Ranger you have enough for 3 skill boxes of one tree in an elite weapon class. the three for carbineer that give speed modifications also have an attack or two that hits all three pools of the target. i thought this would be a great thing to use when also having pets since they hit random pools as well. but who knows, i guess it's just hard to play this game once you've maxed out you skill points, so i try to find ways to make myself need Xp again. and since master ranger and master CH are what i've wanted since the beginning, i just throw around the rest of my points looking for the best option.

i don't even have carbine 1 of marksman yet so i have yet to test this, but i should be a carbineer by this weekend so i can let you know how well it is or isn't complementing my CH skills.
