Thread: Wookie/Bothan/Rodian innate bonuses. Do they matter and do they help?
I always promised to make a character a Ranger and one day I shall. I had made a bothan because they get natural bonuses but I'm wondering do the bonuses make a difference in the long run?
Bothans get a +15 to camouflage and a 10% scout increase
Wookies get CH bonuses (which I probably won't do much of)
Rodians get a 5% scout increase.
I madea rodian and was thinking that he was really cool but again I ask.
Does race matter (or in other words do you think these bonuses will make a big impact in the long run)
Thoughts?
"Bothans get a +15 to camouflage"
That skill bonus gives you one extra experimentation point when creating camo kits. ![]()
As well I'm sure the camo skill have some impact on the use of /conceal.
I asked the same question as a wookiee on the CH forum. I was looking at the numbers and couldn't see where my +10 bonus to creature taming was going. The CHs told me that it doesn't apply that way. As a wookiee I can tame viscious creatures earlier, which is not reflected by any of the numbers on my character chart. So basically the bonus is there, but you can't prove it unless you actually go out and try to tame a creature that is too viscious for others to tame. Of course I could be misunderstanding what they said too! So if the same is true for Bothans you could be getting better maskscent and conceal, but you wouldn't see an extra +15 on the numbers when you look at maskscent on your character sheet. Does this make sense? If anyone knows more about this -please post! I'd like to know as well!

actually you SHOULD see them on your stat sheet.
My rodian has one handed and two handed accuracy bonuses right off the bat in addition to the scout/bh bonuses and they are listed on my stat mods section as well.
yeah i got them on swgcenter.
However you do see your bonuses in your stat window that are given to you based on race.
"I'm a trando and the 10% harvesting bonus does appear to help."
I chose Trandoshan for the improved unarmed damage... But the harvesting bonus is decent as well.
If I were to reroll my character I would choose Zabrak for the high Willpower stat.
That mind damage is a nuisance during extended combat. ![]()
Just the facts. Hehe.
As stated already, Bothan camo bunus goes to help with the new /conceal and camo kits.
I was not aware of bothan 10% to scout. What does this mean. We get 10% xp bonus on scout xp? If so, I say that is a great bonus to consider when choosing race.
I would not say any of the bonuses make a "big" difference in the long run. It will depend on your playing style and what you want actually do with the character. I chose Bothan because I like the whold Bothan Spynet, being sneaky, hiding, and fast and nimble. (even though there is no bothan spynet in the game) The camo bonus as well, a bonus to my decision.

The skill bonuses quoted by the original poster are out of date Beta bonuses that he/she must have seen on a site like swgcenter. The current Bothan bonus is +camoflauge and +stealth. Stealth actually was also an unfinished skill from beta, I think currently it is intended that one of the skills will effect Camo (the ranger ability) and one will affect (mask scent) the scout ability.
On a side note, bonuses like "Scout +5%" were actually bonuses to XP gained in that profession.
This info may not be current any more with the changes to /maskscent and the addition of /conceal since the game went live, but when I started playing at launch Morn's /maskscent was very reliable and she made a lot of XP with it (she's a Bothan). It would get broken now and then (noticably less each time she gained a bonus) but overall it worked well from Exploration II, and from III onwards it was great.
Everyone else I played with gave up using /maskscent because it got broken constantly, barthe other Bothan who also found it worked very well. When I bought a second account a couple of weeks after launch for Eleanor (Twi'lek) her /maskscent also got broken by pretty much any mob that appeared on the radar, even at Exploration IV (Eleanor never made Master Scout for the extra +20, she just got the Exploration branch)
The first change (iirc) added the one-minute re-use delay, at which point it became pointless for Eleanor to use it as it broke within 10 seconds of putting it up anyway. It was still mostly usable for Morn though, it was a pain when it got broken but it was still up more often than not.
Then they added the change whereby a mob seeing through /maskscent might attack you, and it was no longer pointless but in fact too dangerous for Eleanor to try to use, and pretty risky for Morn to. After getting attacked by stuff on the edge of the radar three times in a row Morn stopped using it too, it was easier to just skirt around stuff.
By the time /conceal came out Morn had made Master Ranger (still not using /maskscent though), and I decided to give it a try. Very good when it worked, broke less than /maskscent used to on both Morn and Eleanor, but again the getting attacked by things that broke it from long range stopped me using it pretty soon. It actually broke more often on Morn, but that might have been because she was always leading. Eleanor managed to heal her through these fights without her /conceal breaking several times, with the mobs 5m or less away. I'm guessing the /conceal works using the skill of the Ranger that applied it.
Anyway, back to the point of this ramble: The Bothan bonus certainly used to make a very noticable difference (based on the findings of 2 Bothans and 10 or so non-Bothans anyway), however as I've not used it for a couple of months now I couldn't say for sure if it still does.
