This need to be read by all who's concern how things are handle behind the scene. I know it's not to the letter maybe but if you ever been in business for your self I think you might understand the direction taken from Dev. Team.

Personally I feel for the devs. They have 20-some professions demanding fixes to all their individual problems. If they mess up, players go dev head-hunting. Players really can be ungrateful most of the time. You can fix one thing but they will still complain about something else. The fact that most of us miss is that these devs are still humans, and humans do make mistakes. So when something becomes "broke", we should try to realize that it was probably not done intentionally. Nerfs are different. I would never want to be a dev for a MMORPG. Little gratitude and lots of griping. People say SOE this and that. Heck I've had these problems with every MMORPG I've played in some way or another. It's hard to catch every bug in a game that is constantly changing.

That goes for the Correspondents too. Here we have a great Correspondent in Nraas. But I know some other forums truly loathe their Correspondents. (DE comes to mind where the community blamed the Correspondent for the Droid Handler woes simply because he stated that he liked the idea)

Good read. I like knowing game designers made their way up from the the player community. Makes me believe/hope they are keeping gameplay in mind rather than the bucks in their pockets. Good post.

New home of SWG Rangers!

"Ranger isnt a profession. Its a lifestyle for sure. But upon the desert plains of Tattooine that wandering hermit you see was once a proud Ranger. It may not be a profession anymore but the lifestyle can never be lost, changed or deleted. "

Kia,
That stood out to me also when I read that. Also the fact the he stated it's not about him but us the players first. Atleast I know he's thinking and he understand that. So I won't fuss any longer on the direction of SWG but try beinghelpful towards 'Rangers' and what I think Dev. need to know. Both your post touch correctly on the idea of this thread. Thank you.

Sad to see so many players view the thread and not reply because they don't like reading long post.

I have always been confused why people think changes are instant and there is no red tape to get through (regarding the game). I have never worked for a big company, but I certainly understand that the more people in a company, the longer it takes for and action to be taken. As far as long posts...I tend to skim them as I check these boards at work, so have to hurry.

The great thing is, is that I have fun playing the game now...

I hope and cant wait for the ranger upgrades in the future (i have faith) and I know that the devs are probably swamped with work.
I took ranger initially to complement my desire to be a BH, but after being a BH and the horrible grind up the investigation tree, I found out that I really liked being a ranger...and then of course the ranger community.

I could customize a template that would allow me to cut a swath of destruction across the galaxy, like Gen. Sherman, but for me, thats not a lot of fun I want to be a ranger for the skills that it has now and then cheer with all of the other rangers when we get the news about any upcoming upgrades.

I think the devs are doing a good job...although sometimes i cant say the same thing about the suit and tie people at soe. just my 2 creds.

now that I have seen it...

The Good:
"...and reading their "State of the Profession" posts."

NEVER say that Nraas does nothave an impact . This gives me much hope.

The Bad:
"...game mechanic support for Chefs, Entertainers, Combatants, Merchants and Politicians all rolled into one service?"

Rangers are not seeminglylisted... or are we then Merchants? Combatants? No? closest I come to is "Merchant Support Profession", a really fancy one. My fear is all the "sqweeky wheels" have drowned us out, as indicated by this list seeming to have put us out of mind.

The Ugly:
"...each player feels they have a meaningful purpose within the game."

I think about that over and over. We do have a purpose. However, it seems a bit... I don't know... vacuous? Do they think of us as Bantha herders? I hope that is not true. I'd like to think we could do something in the GCW other then the combat prof we chose to help our prof. In that case we make a weak combatant, 140 points not really helping. Kind of like the Chef that has enough points left to TKM, and he's probablyable to pound me to dust.

(my impression Ranger isn't a profession that's meant to be taken as an end unto itself. It's almost impossible, and definitely unattractive, to try and master the Ranger profession without also focusing on any other profession. Ranger is meant to be a profession that provides support to the other professions, so it's not a focal point. That's not to say it isn't important or doesn't get attention, it's just not something you list along with the other "types" of professions. There are a number of combat professions and merchant professions, and healing professions, but Scout/Ranger doesn't "fit" andisn't aprimary profession.

And yeah, Rangers do get attention, and I don't think we're being drowned out at all. I mean, the Ranger forum has more posts than probably half of the others. More than average for sure. And NRaas has compiled the best State of the Profession of any other profession, that's sure to get attention.

- I support the CU and am grateful that we have a game that continues to evolve rather than stagnate. Join the positive voices!

Everyones Post has merit and I hope once whatever they decide and complete will give them more time to focus on rangers. As I said adding more content every few months is a good thing but looking at man hours it's not going to happend over night for us rangers.
