Thread: Almost time for my return... Again

I've rewritten this post three times to state my mind.

At last notice, I was a TKA/Ranger. Ranger is my first chosen profession. It is the profession I left for the holo grind, and a profession I returned to after the silent. I left it, yet again, in search for a profession that wasn't as frustrating as TKA (FoW... worthless most times, meditation buff... waste of points, bla bla bla). So I grabbed Rifleman. I'd been TKA/Rifleman for a bit. I enjoyed the defense stacking (fencer/rifle would be better) but got frustrated by the HEAVY MIND COST OF RIFLEMAN. Geez, without brandy, I'd have an empty mind after 5 specials. Give me a break. So, I dropped TKA for carbineer. So far I'm enjoying it. The specials are, **sigh**, largely action based. What does this mean? Short of having an AP3 weapon (rifle), I don't need to be drunk off brandy and full of canape simply to usespecials liberally. I only need a doc buff . So I'm going to work on master carbineer. I'm going to test carbine and rifle in all aspects of PvP and PvE. Whichever prof I select out of it, I'll stick with it and drop the other for my third mastery of Ranger. Pistoleer was nice but it isn't great unless it is paired with smuggler dirty fighting (which is impossible to do with Ranger). So it goes with my story. Do we all know I'm ready for master ranger again? I have 30k of bone, 30k of hide, and 10k of aluminum for the survival tree grind (more than enough, but the more the merrier). I have an equipment factory filled with dath/endor/yavin/dant camo kits, HTFB, and trap crates. I'm ready to go. WOOHOO

Cool... let me know how you like Carbineer...

I just finished all the melee profs, pistoleer... so far, Pikeman really fits my style.

Welcome back

I also would like to know how cabines works out for you. I only recently completed my first elite combat profession (Rifles) and have been have a great time with it, but any information on the other combat professions would be welcomed. Especially when combined with Ranger.

Cool, welcome back Rook. I'll definitely be re-mastering ranger as well, but I'll be waiting until closer to the revamp to do it. I just can't stand staying useless for that long.

Pikeman/Ranger? lol, there is something *so* right about that, rofl.

I'll definitely let yall know. I just can't, for the life of me, master another combat prof without another one to back me up in a tight spot (it has happened dozens of times since i picked up the carbine). I would've dropped rifle after remastering ranger and getting carbine, but that would've been a disaster. Nothing less fun than levelling a combat prof without defenses.

Oh, I decided most my levelling will be done killing stormtroopers on rebel factions. That way I get paid, I level up, and I get promoted to colonel finally.

My first and third mastered profession was Ranger (had to give up the trapping tree and some wayfaring boxes to follow my holo to Master Squad Leader), but I picked up Carbineer somewhere along the line just to be different and I'm slowing building it up. If you don't have it yet, get the third box in the marksman tree for the /cripplingShot special to do some real damage. Anyway, I don't know how it compares to the other combat professions, but after the recent modifications, I'm having lots of fun dizzying (/fullAutoSingle2) and then knocking down (/chargeShot?) NPCs (especially stormtroopers).

I have almost no defenses though, as you pointed out, so my new combat droid (as opposed to my nerfed rock mite) serves as my main line of defense. And before you ask, yes, it's taking forever to master Carbineer that way!

Ahhh, Ranger|Carbineer. My early beta dream template

Cone attacks galore, trap and weapon range about the same, stun, blind, mez, posture, dizzy, knockdown etc. from both traps and specials.

I was looking forward to this. The ultimate group support role. Just stay back and fire FullAutoArea2 and throw a trap or two if something goes wrong.

Boy was I wrong Granted, I haven't mastered Carbineer just yet ( and that's a bad sign ) but today I really put an effort into it. No more buff up, armor up and spam away. I joined a group and went out hunting. Sharnaffs, fairly easy targets to practice on ( oh and I can actually get my traps to stick ).

Ranger? Well we all know about Ranger but Cabineer? The profession is a contradiction in itself. Clearly aimed at being a support combat profession, designed to stay back and lay down a spray of destruction but no. The cone attacks are what is really bringing Carbineer down ( oh and the HAM costs but that, at least, is going to be looked at ), they only damage the targets if you have aggro, and, Carbineers aren't supposed to have aggro. Trying to bring tactics into SWG combat proved to be a bad idea. While the tanks had the aggro all I could do was sit back and stick states, one creature at a time.

On your own though it's a different thing. You'll get the aggro anyway, so buff up, armor up and spam away. With the CB however, I don't think Rangers will have the firepower to hunt much on their own. At least not with a profession like Carbineer on the side. When the MOBs get tougher you don't want to use those cone attacks

Okay, for my update. I'd like to alert yall that I've decided between rifleman and carbineer. The answer is RIFLEMAN. Carbineer SUCKS. It was a long, drawn out grind. At master, you're tapping the enemy for a huge HAM cost of the specials. The specials are slow as well. I dropped it almost instantly, remastered TKA. I'm going to drop rifleman in exchange for pistoleer/smuggler. I'm going to play that route for a while since they're due for a revamp. I also have 108 unlocked containers I can't trust anyone to open for me. I've been pistoleer before so I know what to do to level. I may keep that template for a while, I may not. It all depends on how well my smuggling business goes. I have 2 weaponsmiths and 2 armorsmiths in my guild who needs consistent slicers. I feel it is my turn to take that burden. Muon is hard to find on Bria, so I think I'll fill that gap. If it isn't what it cracks up to be, I'll likely keep pistoleer for its defenses, drop smuggler, and reaquire ranger. After all, it's my favorite profession. Gotta have the HTFB.

That wraps up my update.

I wish you would get an 'x2' or 'x3' next to mastered professions. Ranger x2, TKA x3, Scout x3, Medic x2.... Then that would be cool.
