Thread: An Idea to tracking
I wasn't in beta, so I'm not entirely sure how it worked, but this is my idea on how it should be.
When they give us tracking <crosses fingers>, give us the ability to track within a 256m radius, and only be able to track creatures. Since we are the master of creature knowledge, make that part of the third tree (off hand I think it's frontiering). I don't think we should have the ability to track humanoids (like all other games).
Instead of pointing us in the direction or telling us it is "NW" of your location, put up a black arrow on our radar (or a color that isn't in use) and that can get us to that direction.
Any thoughts? Again, It could have already been like this before they removed it from beta, but it would be a nice addition and actually make Rangers more desirable.
I am thinking the same thing as was about to post it as well. Make it even similar to how the survey tool works for artisans. They do a scan (we can just do something else graphically) and they get results to show where the higher concentration of resources are located.
Say we are looking for Durni...we use the tack tool...and we see something like a 50 percent concentration of durni to the north..as we move that we we have a higher chance to find some...eventually leading to 100 percent as we finally get there.
Thoughts?
That one works too, probably better than my idea.
I was just thinking when you choose the tracking option, it would bring a list of all creatures (not multiple ones over and over (as if close to a lair)) but it would list the various creatures within that radius...double click on the creature you seek and the black waypoint would spawn on your radar.
but I like your thought as well, problem is, I think the percentage of crazed durni's would be hard to determine like they do the resources since the creatures would spawn and be killed much faster than the resource changes/shifts.
256m seems a little small, I mean it's ok for surveying but with tracking I assume we'd mostly be looking for rarer creatures
I'd say a master ranger should/could track a 1000m or 1500m radius, that's less than a mile, which realistically creatures in RL can be tracked that far away by good trackers

that's why I stated around 256m, anything past that, you pretty much only see the static human camps (up to 600m).
Even then, some creatures spawn right on top of you, but it's more feasible to get a range of 256 meters on the radar.
