Hold on. Creature is aggro'd. He wants to eat the Ranger Lunchable. Just the AI is too stupid to realize there is a tree or other obstacle in the way and it continues to run without going anyplace. Should you move to the right, or left, or forwards, or backwards, even a teeny bit, that tree is not gonna hold back the creature. You may have got lucky there, but when the lair drops and you move, I bet the creature comes charging.
Trust me on this, been there, done that, got the t shirt, laffed at the creature. This is the old harvestor trick, which may or may not still work. Houses do the same thing.
Better trick for you pistol types -
Maskscent
Healthshot (1 or 2), the other HS, another special your choice - PEACE. If there is a bleed in place, you are good to go.
Move to 70m from target, with no other creatures in the way
Laff, hide behind droid - the creature is no longer aggro - wait for it, wait for it, watch the bleed - Aggro, single creature, when the first bleed kicks in. Pdart, sharp bone - shoot the thing until dead.
Works 90% of the time for me, sometimes more, sometimes less. Will not work if you shoot a momma and there is a baby present, the baby will aggro. So shoot it first.
No applause please, just send your/tip to me.

Had this same experience recently hunting on Endor also.
Was hunting recent herb spawn from Latern's and came to my lair but had some tree's around. During my dodge and rolls i ended up behind tree which gave me cover from attacks, but i could still attack my targets!
Will use this more often me thinks!

I found it only worked when it was trees you could not shoot through.
and as for the aggro being stuck behind a tree. I had Bolle Bol arround a lair, I arranged it so that only 1 was in Line of sight, I attacked, it aggroed, was having a couple low damage shots hit it (doh...) and 1 of the other 2 walked ni sight then went aggro...
This does not sound like a coincident, I'm not going to rely on this huntng tactic but it does sound like it can help out vs swarming creatures.

Actually trees work great for cover, as well as any other solid object that would normally give you the "You cannot see your target". It mainly works on creatures who used ranged attacks... voritors, spiders, etc. Works best on Endor and Dath which have larger trees.
Against NPCs shooting ranged weapons, I always zoom out far to third person view, and use my left and right arrow keys to run back and forth... taking cover between trees and anything else.
I've had less success using trees as cover against creatures that attack with melee though. Occasionally they won't attack if there is a tree between us, but more often than not, they'll smell me out.

Using cover to force ranged attackers to come to me is pretty crucial-- I don't have a gun. If someone takes a shot at me, or some creature spits at me, I always duck behind the nearest cover, and then punch them repeatedly in the face when they close in on me. Especially useful if there are multiple ranged attackers after me.

I hate it when critters hide behind a tree.
I was on Naboo, plinking fambaa, and one went and hid behind this sappling. I got up, moved round, still I couldn't 'see' it. Went a little closer, theres another blinkin' tree.
I worked round some more, there's me, sneaking round, trying not to get too close to the aggro shaped red things up the road aways, and there's Fatty Fambaa, hiding it's big house sized butt behind a twiglet. The language in my house was something I'd be banned instantly for repeating, but it WOULD have made a sailor blush.
And then what happens? Oh yeah, the "I'm bigger than a small naboo house" blob on legs, instead of standing quietly bleeding to death behind a twiglet takes it into it's head to warp 100m away, into a field of (and I counted them, I was that peeved) 120 mineral and grain harvesters.
I swear I could hear it laughing to it's mates as it hippity hoppity hopped off into the sunset...

I was hunting on Endor the other day, and acidentally got an entire lair to attack at once... with one exception, the one that was behind a tree.
after a few trial and errors (and a clone) I found that if I make it so that a tree blocking line of sight, I have less chance of having a creature attack. I could even attack the lair directly without pulling it. So whenyou want to hit 1 creature in a group, arrang it so that you have trees hiding you from the rest of the group.
