Ive wanted to do ranger for ages so now im gonna but i have a small question. Ive read the template thread and the faq but i cant decide wether to take it with rifles or swords and this is why. I have a leaning to rifles but i also enjoy hunting Night Sisters, GDK's etc so i was wondering how good is conceal on these sort of mobs and how long will it take them to agro me. As if its not working that well i will keep swords so that i have more of a chance.

Before the conceal stealth fix a couple patches back i would have said rifles all the way. But as a fencer my conceal is holding while im fighting. Normally conceal and mask scent drop in a melee battle. I mean come on how are you going to hide your scent while fighting? But now it works so if swords is your profession go for it. It will of course be more of a benefit to rifle in the long run working with conceal shot. Since your at range and given better chances of it not working.

But both work now

If you want to solo Elders and GDKs efficiently then swordsman would be preferable. If you are not defense stacked, which as a Master Ranger you would not be, then you will need to use some tactics to get the job done and I believe there is a post somewhere in the graveyard that was started long ago on tactics. Its a good read. But a master Swordsman\Ranger can still solo an Elder and a GDK. Albeit, the GDK will seem like a kreetle in comparison to the Elder. Now, Brawlers can in fact single pull creatures especially in you are a Ranger. You need carefully approach your target and /taunt them slowly walking away. Just /taunt and walk them to a more appropriate battlefield. It takes a bit more patience and practice then our ranged compatriots but it does work. This is the method I use to pull Elders from the entourage. Good luck.

Conceal and maskscent will stay up during combat. Of course, the entire lair can "see" you, it's the neighbors that are left in the dark. Aggro one creature, the entire lair can attack you. Do something stupid and it's more than possible to bring the neighbors in too (But we shall not talk about that unfortunate incident).

Unless you have some way of aggroing only one animal at a time - Pistoleers do - you will be meeting the entire wave all at once. So much for camo/maskscent during combat. Just cause the "nose" is there, doesn't mean you are not going to be aggro'd.

Nightsisters will not be fooled by conceal. GDKs, 50/50 chance, at best. They will see you straight off or they won't.
