Which ranger skills do you NOT use, and why?
Here's mine:
- /forage
It just isn't worth using, the food buffs are not worth the stomach filling factor and it's not as desirable since you don't know what you'll find and continued foraging fills up your inventory. The only times I've used it in the past few months is to find food items for people that wanted them as decorations! - /rescue
I'd like to use this more however it relies on people listening to instructions from me to work. They just don't listen. You either tell them the full story, but if they're being attacked they're kind of distracted, or you just tell them to /peace with the creature, and which point they call you crazy. Very frustrating. Also, even if it does work, being a sniper-based ranger, I'm not really keen on filling the tank role, which is what /rescue turns you into, especially most of the time I'm the only ranger in the groups I join.

As someone who usually goes brawler or close range support I have used /rescue quite a bit. In fact i have a macro called "Save Myste" when Im helping my BE sample. It does rescue twice and has myself and pets attack the target. She has no combat skills so under fire she knows to back off anyway. And its been a very useful skill.
I havent used /taunt yet and i am a brawler so it would work. But from what i hear it does the same as /rescue
As for forage those of us who fish couldnt get by without it. Its due for a set of fixes and when it gets it. I doubt it will stay on this list.

Sorry, but the poll is for unused ranger skills (subject line is misleading I know, until you read the first sentence of my post).

Personally, I use all my Ranger skills from time to time
-Rescue is good for helping new players, helping BE's, saving people, protecting the Doctors in the Village
-Camo is good against NPC's (sometimes) and lasts longer than mask scent
-Dave, if it's only Ranger skills your talking about-- fishingand foraging don't count, you can do them in scout
edit note: forgot about foraging

never used rescue, guess ranged combat/no armor/no buffs make it quite useless.
Never used the ranger traps.
All other skills i've used on regular basis (forage is good for ch)

/taunt is a bit more effective becuase it requires no action on the part of anyone other than the user. You select an aggro and /taunt. They will immediately break off and target you if successful. However, that does not mean that an aggro you taunt will not revert back to its orginal target if they continue to attack. /rescue requires someone to peace and /taunt does not.

ANYONE can fish, even non-scouts. the thing that is scout based is the ability to extract meat and bait from the fish.
my crafter alt made a 99% Fishing Rod, and i just had to try out my new UBER fishing rod. i caught a Lokian Striped Fish, but i couldn't Fillet it since i had no scout skills.

I think we can include /forage as we get skill mods towards it all up our frontiering tree
I also never use /rescue. I have told my hunting party about it many times but they normally die before hitting /peace anyway

/forage - only use it for bait, which is rarely since my pole is usually baited and I can catch a fish to get chum before it runs out.
As for /rescue, I found it helpful in phase 4 of the Village. It's also useful on docs if they're trying to run out to rez someone in a cave/dungeon area.
I don't use it often, but it can be helpful. I just wish we could ctrl-1 to target self and then /rescue which would result in a sort of "area rescue" taking the aggro off everyone and putting it on you as a sort of last ditch sacrifice attempt.

Suprisingly, I use all my Ranger (and Scout) skills from time to time. I crawl on the Corvette to avoid agro, I use camo when I have the resources as it works better than maskscent for me, I use camps as staging areas and to heal my wounds when I have a few, I forage for fishing bait and pet food, I track stuff, I like the creature knowledge, I need the creature to hit bonus when fighting as I don't have an elitecombat profession, I use the harvesting mods (although I usually only harvest because there is a dead corpse in front of me, not because I'm out collecting resources), I use the traps (including the AoE ones [but not lecepanine darts and some others], although these are usually to help out some of my friends when they go xp hunting) for hunting stuff, I use rescue to try and save friends on hunting trips (and it sometimes works), etc. The skills aren't perfect but they all can be useful to some playstyles. I guess I'm just lucky (read: sad) enough to use most of them.

I use forage when I'm bored and find myselfin dire need offungus. Rescue is something I use quite a bit; a friend of mine is working on carbines, and being able to pull everything off of him and on to me is handy. Usually he's shooting at something that's already on me, so any additional rescues (if needed) will work the first time, without a peace-spam on his part. Your friend just needs to trust that you'll aid him and not target whatever comes after him (or her), and rescue will work without a problem.
I use camo fairly often, but not nearly as much as maskscent. Traps I rarely use-- as a TKM, I can land just about any state without wasting an action that does little or negligible damage and roots me in place. I do keep some phec darts handy if a retreat becomes necessary, though, and if I'm tanking for a friend, I'll usually whip up some glow wires.
Since dizzy doesn't have any real effect on creatures, it would be nice for all you ranged-damage rangers to have a knockdown trap. I use unarmed knockdown a lot against creatures, because that brief window of increased damage is sometimes crucial, especially against something big and nasty (and resistant to kinetic damage). I bet a knockdown trap would see quite a bit of use.

OK, used and unused skills, for comparison, or something.
Haven't thrown a trap in weeks.
Camps, well, if it's not an HTFB I'm not going to waste time popping it. Pop camp, craft camp, call pet, sit and heal, let group finish harvesting, meet up, break camp. Thank you, thats another 1250XP to go to the village.
Forage. /shrug I think I wanted to 'feed' my pet one afternoon, cos there was a pretty twi'lek nearby and I always found that giving my horse an apple caught the girls eyes... So I foraged, and fed my bol an onion.
Oh, and /forage is good for mooning NPC's...
skinning/fleshing and boning prey? Constantly. Whether its a good resource or dross. It's all xp.
/area ? Use it pretty often.
/mask Am I travelling from A-B ? Then am masked. All those bugs and kitty cats, it's all good XP.
/conceal Use less than maskscent, but depends on where / what am doing. But again, it's all XP.
