Thread: Droid Engineer Items for Ranger Ideas

I saw my last post on this got some intresting responces, and was link to in a sticky. So I thought I would go more indepth.


In MY vision of a ranger we do not need to have droids to be effetive. Some may disagree, but the following ideas should be usable for everyone.


Droid engineers should be able to make advanced tools, as well as droids. Some examples are below.


To give rangers an advantage when harvesting, make a tools that either doubles our harvest, or allows us to harvest Hide/Bone/Meat at the same time. To make use more unique from scouts, make it a certification to use, Possibly make 2 vesions with different cetification, a low end tool at novice. And an advanced tool for level 3 box or master.


I like the idea of Backpack items. there are 2 possible ways of implimenting this. 1 is make optional components for backpacks that have "droid inteligence" that will give the operatorator voice activated commands. Or have an item that is voice activated that sits in inventory.

- a trap launcher, that is voice activated so it does not each up our combat queue.

- A stim injector for quick heals.


Another Idea is a camp add-on. This either is an item that sits in our inventory and will automatically become a part of our camp. Make it another certification at ranger, again to diferentiate us from the scouts. IF needed make it a droid that only works in the camps, that shows up when the camp is deployed.

- a music box, something that heals BF, and let entertainers heal our BF.

- a Crating station booster, on out more advanced camps we get crafting stations, this could let us use our stations and make better quality stuff than in towns.

- Med scanner, to increase teh auto heal of camps.

- a com unit, for either getting missions(at least explorer missions), Or a terminal allowing us to jump to our ships.(advanced camps only)


How about an scanner for area tracking, that allows us to search for lairs. As a hunter I know what spawns our of a warren on planet x, and what spawns out of a pile of leaves. and they appear on radar much earlier than creatures, this should help find them.... and possible for a couple spawns, to avoid abuse, it will only force a spawn of a lair if the are less than 5 lairs in the max range. Another ranger certification.

The camp Add-on Idea, should be re-usable. this is because the effort of getting crates of disposable items from a DE will most likely out weigh the bonus from them.


How about a trap making tool. At ranger we can get a tool that allows us to use a tool that allows us to experiment on traps. Leave the minimuns at the same levels they are now, for most purposes they are good enough. But when in a camp the ranger has the ability to assemble traps and experiment with them. instead of having us use this next to a crafting station, make it so that we can experiment in out camps. Give each camp a pre-set crafting bonus the increases with each level of camp. FYI camps should never need to be experimented on, camps should be make from any resources and be equal.

Droids add one thing more then any other to SWG. They add immersion. Droids are Star Wars. I can be a Ranger in any number of EQ/D&D clone games. I can be a creature handler in the same games. I can't have a walking talking trashcan follow me around in them.

I can't go around Tatooine with 3PO or R2 (thank you one droid rule grr wheres my droid commander profession) giving me a tour in those games.

Droids are important to SWG. We are high tech hunters we are not Indians. We rely on our equipment to help us in our quests to get to our goals. So we need them to help us.

Big thing is droids are an option you dont have to have them. And you can get by without them. But don't limit their role and lessen one more piece of Star Wars in Galaxies.
