Can anybody suggest a good macro to program for a droid that allows you to efficiently hunt and harvest at the same time?

well I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but here is the macro that I use:
/tellpet fetch'em;
/pause 1;
/tellpet fetch'em;
Basically, I use tellpet twice because I've noticed that it sometimes doesn't hear me the first time.
As for a looping macro, I'm sure that it would be possible, but I'm not sure how much more effective it would be -- if you tell the droid to harvest one target and then to harvest another target before it has reached the first, then it will go to the second target and ignore the first. Of course, if you are looping through the corpses then it might eventually work its way back to the first...

Well, first program your droid with a word command to make it harvest. I chose "harvest".
Next, set up a custom macro (name it, select the icon, and enter the command). In my case, the minimum required command would be /tellpet harvest. Just move it to a hotkey and that's that. Unfortunately you need to have that corpse targeted every time you hit your harvest hotkey. They won't harvest more efficiently than that.
There's more you can add to your macro, but it won't make it any more efficient. Here's an example of mine:
/tellpet harvest;
/pointat %tt;
/command Harvest!
The droid heads towards the target with a "!" while I simutaneously point at it and command it to "Harvest!" in spatial.
It's mainly just for fun, but with the voice command and the /pointat %tt variable, I have something to look at so that I know my command went through along with the droid's "!" feedback. If I'm in the heat of battle while running and shooting, I can glance down at my spatial and see:
!
Kimi Raikonnen points at the corpse of a Bantha Matriarch
Kimi Raikonnen commands, "Harvest!"
That's much easier to spot in my spatial tab than "!". I've never had a droid fail my command unless I try to use the macro less than a second after it harvests the previous corpse. You can add all kinds of emotes to it if you want, and use %tt to name your target/corpse.
Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to speed them up or make them more efficient. Personally, I harvest manually and send the droid to something further away so I don't have to run out 64 meters to harvest myself. (two corpses harvested at once!). Or if it's a tougher mob, I can send it out to harvest while working on another creature. It will finish harvesting before I bring the next rancor or whatever down, then I repeat the process.

One trick I like to do, is to fully utilize the "follow target" command with my harvestor. Usually I'll tell the droid to follow what ever lair i'm at, that way the droid doesn't try to come back to me after every harvest.
Since I use a rifle i'm usually a long way off, and I've found that the further the droid is from the harvest target when you issue the command the greater the chance is for it to decide it doesn't want to harvest.
My way, the droid hangs out around the lair, and then goes out to harvest what ever your target you tell it to. Then, the follow command is still active so it "follows" back to the lair.
I like it!

Buy a killer droid and harvest yourself.
/harvest <resource> works. Even for milk.
Harvestor droids, sorta useless one trick ponies.
Tho I guess if you are a rifleperson (look, political correctness) you should have one or the stuff goes poofie as you can't get up and harvest or the monsters will eat on you. (Tho maskscent works fairly well).

JBmat, we all know you hate harvest droids
But seriously, these things are great for riflemen. Our best aim is at 60-64 meters, and because of that it's a pain to run up to every corpse that we kill at a distance, harvest it, and then go back out to 60m away from your next target, run back and harvest that. Granted, we don't miss often at 30m or even point blank, but it's more efficient at our ideal range.
I find the droids more useful on larger creatures. Not just because that little 14% or whatever adds up, or that I'm trying to avoid aggro from a red mob, but because they can reach the last corpse and harvest it at the same time the next creature is being brought down right next to it. (it's 5m away from that corpse, while I'm still 64m away. That saves a lot of time).
And best of all, they can reach that rancor or other large resource creature that ended up dying in the middle of a river.
