So the general saying is that unless a profession has a line of marksman in thair pre-req they cant have General Range Accuracy and General Range Speed modifiers?

Ok I can accept that, and I have an idea on how ranger could still get offensive skills. Simply give us a critical hit chance.
Smugglers can slice guns to get a critical hit chance, BH have a range special the have increase the critical hit chance, and so does swordsman if I remember correctly. And with the SL rewrap they will get a Critical hit buff last I heard.

So it Is by no means a thing that in not in the game, or is the domain of only one profession.

So if Rangers was given a critical hit chance, we rangers would get a DPS increase with out specials or speed modyfires, and it would work for both range and melee weapons.
And for balancing issues, prevent it from stacking with the critical hit chance from slicing. As we would be slower with weapons, anyway we could just get speed slices.

Add in Range/Melee Defence modifiers and we will be well set. And we could remain an elite profession like Doctor, and still have a free choice of weapons.

Or maybe an Armor Break chance (i.e. a chance to mitigate some amount of armor protection from the target). SLs also seem to be getting a buff like this (i.e. similar code is in game) and general damage increasing mods like this would be a fun, useful, and unique way of handling Ranger combat bonuses without forcing us into melee or ranged mods.

Most professions get ranged or melee speed and accuracy mods as well as ranged and melee defense. We will probably still want melee and ranged defense but why should our other mods necessarily be some sort of ranged/melee speed/accuracy? It would be cool to get some a unique set of combat mods and they wouldn't have to be melee or ranged specific. Give us a reasonable chance to do extra damage from an attack (either through critical hits or some sort of armor mitigation or something else like this or several of these sorts of things) and it might make up for the accuracy and speed loss.

So, instead of speed and accuracy mods, maybe giving us an innate critical hit chance and an innate armor break chance (or some similar mods) could work. It would definitely be a somewhat more unique approach and wouldn't push players towards melee or ranged professions.
