Thread: Emperor's Retreat, story of the lake?

Does anyone know the story, ingame or otherwise, of the lake behind the Emperor's Retreat. For those of you that have not been there, there is large lake just behind, and down the mountain, from the Retreat. If you look in the lake you see the reflection of a city on the other side rather than the moutains that are actually there.

I've done a bit of searching and have not found any other mention of this on the boards. Does it have a history of any sort that anyone is aware of?

Long, long ago, in a galaxy far away, there was a city by the shore of a lake. The people of the city were peaceful folk, living in harmony with nature, taking no more than they needed and always giving back more.

A thriving colony of artists, artisans, writers, playwrights, dancers and singers thrived in the city, drawing the inspiration for their craft from the surrounding hills and valleys. It seemed that they grew old only very, very slowly and somehow were gifted with their energy for life itself by the world around them.

Few people ever had direct contact with the people of the city by the lake, meeting only emissaries in the nearby settlements or occaisionaly at the major markets in the planets few large cities. The few who did travel to the city by the lake said the people there were uncommonly handsome, fairminded and uncomplicated. Possessed of great natural wisdom they were a self contained and content community.

One day, a strange ship appeared in the sky over the lake and, by use of beam weapons and other horrific devices, obliterated the entire city in the flash of an eye.

A new Order was being established and the site had been chosen as the location for the new Emperor's Retreat, the structure which lurks malevolently nearby.

However, rumours persist to this day that the death of the city was so sudden that many of its people and much of its memory still exists, in a time just a few nanoseconds before now and a few nanoseconds afterwards.

People who look into a body of water, or any other reflective surface in the buildings nearby, say they see strange structures, buildings, trees, furniture.

They are in fact seeing into that time long past or maybe yet to come again. Even if they are unaware of it, these people may be slightly FS and are 'skrying', seeing beyond by gazing into a reflective surface, teh sort of surface that can form a union and a division between this world and the next.

Be careful though, one of these days somebody will stare into a table top and see somebody else staring back...

******************************SPOILER WARNING********************************

It's deeply, deeply sad to report that the 'ghost city' you see in the lake is actually just the bitmap the dev's used to render the water surface / reflections and isn't 'there' at all. (try a metalic surface inside a Tatooine house, you'll see the reflection of what is clearly a large generic house or maybe a guild hall, definately not adobe)
