I was wondering what other Rangers are doing for Weapon Skill, I am currently a TKA, lvl 1 in all skills.

Please give me your opinions and comments about what you use and why, I am thinking about making a change and would like some direction.

Pick what you like to play. Ranger will complement any weapon skill. For me, I am a Fencer with a pistol backup for then those NPCs run away.

gustavef says it best: pick what you like to play. Many folks are worried that they've not chosen the most 3l33t weapon tree, but given that over time all skills will be subject to some form of modification (boost or nerf), it all kinda evens out in the long-term wash.

As for personal preference, I like pistols for their speed and close-range effectiveness. My own combat style usually has me running about, mixing in traps, bleeding, switching targets, regrouping, etc, and pistols afford a quick reaction/readjustment turnaround time.

That, and I like the aesthetic notion of a blaster close at hand. It's not too obvious but can be called upon quickly when the need presents itself.

But you can successfully leverage any combat style/weapon, if you take the time to learn its tactical/strategic offerings (except, perhaps, Commando weapons )

Use the weapon you like most. But some things need consideration:

1- you get creature to hit bonus when going up the scout and the ranger tree, but this bonus works only to ranged weapons (pistol, carbine and rifle). This is an old issue to rangers (get the bonus also to swords and bare-hand attacks), but now you get the bonus only using ranged weapons. Then is easier to any ranger hit a creature wiht a ranged weapon than using bare hands or swords.

2- when you shot a creature, it will need some time before it find you if you are at a good distance and prone (that gives to ranged weapons a bonus to hit) and maskscented. Then you have more 2 or 3 shots to end the creature before it get near you to fight you (if you use someranged weaponspecial attacks, you can have more shots than these 2 or 3, mindshot and a sequence of headshots are my friends). This give a advantege to rifle and carbine against the pistol. But if you don't kill the creature before it get near to you, you need shift your weapon to pistol, sword or start to use the bare hands to fight and this gives a disanvantage to rifle and carbine against the pistol.

All above thinked, I use a laser rifle to shot the creatures at a good distance (50-55 meters), prone (to have better chance to hit and to make more dificult the creature see me) and maskscented. When i don't kill the creature at distance and it get near me, I changed to pistol to near fight, but now I use a spraystick to near fight (spraystick gives rifle xp and uses the rifle special attacks, I want get up the rifleman tree).
