Thread: Thinking of getting some Ranger
In my spec I was thinking of getting some ranger.. Especially the line that allows me to track mobs, creatures, players, etc.
My request is some information on:
How well Tracking works
How well Conceal works.
I thought Conceal was neat. As I read it, it also works against other Player Characters right? Is this useful?
Does Tracking allow you to track someone who's been through the area recently?
"As I read it, it also works against other Player Characters right? Is this useful?"
Sadly... It does not work against other Players.
"Does Tracking allow you to track someone who's been through the area recently?"
No... Only people who are in the area at the time you perform the command are listed.
Yet another BH who is attempting to quit spending his hardly earned money on droids.
Fer crying out loud, buy a droid or pay a Ranger ya cheapskate.
JB
Yes, I was the one who stated that most BHs could not find their own snitches with two hands and a flashlight, which is why they had to be labelled.
BH!? Bah I'm no BH.
TKA who would like to track single targets taking missions.. Then sneak up on them using conceal and pop em one.. Before they run around and kite me to death while I chase after them never able to swing.
But it looks like you guys are as bugged as we are.. Conceal doesn't work against player characters even though it says so in the description
"Conceal doesn't work against player characters even though it says so in the description"
The descriptions mean you can use the /coneal command on other players to conceal them as well...
- Not that the camoflauge itself works against other players.

in other words the devs in their infinite wisdom have saw fit to restrict us from over half of the game by not allowing us to use the skills we spent 140 points on in pvp. Commandos can one shot anything and anybody, bounty hunters can do the same, combat medics can damage an unhealable mind pool as well as bounty hunters and well we get nothing.
We get traps that suck in pve, a whole two of them.
We get buggy gorgeous eye candy camps that don't work or do anything special vs scout camps.
We have a semi useful tracking skill.
We get a Whole whopping +10 defense to ranged and melee at master
We get a camouflauge skill that will work against any humanoid or creature unless it's a player cause ya know players get x-ray vision.
We are lucky to have the points to master a elite combat profession which we all know doesn't stack up to BH or Commando(which is the only professions people play these days) They can one shot kill everybody and the devs think that if we could hide from them using conceal we'd be overpowered. Boggles the mind doesn't it?
Now if our traps worked on peopleand pets we'd be moving in a good direction
If conceal worked self only in pvp we'd be moving in a good direction
If we had base camps that had a use in the GCW we'd be moving in a good direction
If we had some better defense modifiers and state change defenses we'd be moving in a better direction.
Right now we have a few nifty skills that may find some use to much stronger professions to dabble in but there is no reason at all whatsoever to be a full time pure ranger.
We are a novelty profession that most people master then surrender the skills one by one later on to take on actually useful professions.
We are the elite scouts, our skills should extend to humanoids, and they do but only in pve. We all know there is NO content that will last for any given time in pve. We play a game where nobody groups and the only end game is the GCW which we are kept out of.
So there ya have it, ranger is good for dabbling a little in and why almost no rangers master and keep the title.
We play a profession with no combat skills that requires combat skills to advance in, if you can't fight you can't advance as a ranger. Basically we are gimps with 140 wasted skill points that could serve us better in another profession. No reason to go beyond scout unless you like tracking which is the ONLY skill we have that people seem to like and hold onto.
This shouldn't be the case, our skills should hold value in the GCW and the pvp field. They simply do not and this is why rangers are the most underplayed profession in the game.
The most rangers i've ever seen online at any given time on my server is 5, with maybe one of them being a master and the rest dabblers. Most times i'm the only ranger online. I know every single ranger on my server by name because i've trained most of them. Out of all my apprentices none of them kept the master ranger title and surrendered all but one line of our skills.
Yeah, you guys definately got the short end of the stick. It's unfortunate that you don't have much of a voice.. Everyone hears about BE's problems, etc. You never hear anything of the ranger trouble.
"It's unfortunate that you don't have much of a voice"
I would take offense to that, but that would not be my style. ![]()
The only people that really need to hear our issues are the developers... And so far we have been receiving star treatment in the last couple patchs.
- Addition of /areatrack
- Addition of /conceal
There are also other promised implementations coming down the line:
- Addition of /track
- Addtion of new traps
- Addition of new camps
The large majority of the active Ranger forum population don't consider PvP to be the highest priority at the moment, prefering new skills and tools be added.
- Once those priorities are sated, the focus may change... But for the moment, PvE is where the focus lies.
Take a poll Nrass, a real poll, not a thread we post on, a poll we choose an asnwer and it tallies a percentage.
If pve was most players real concern there would be ALOT more rangers than there currently is and ALOT less surrendering the skills because they are TIRED of waiting for PVP skills to be added to ranger.
I could go back just in this profession forum and come back with a list of names of people still active in this forum who quit being a master ranger.
The ONLY skill people keep from ranger is Tracking.

I also forgot to mention that we have two of the best correspondents working for us: NRaas and DeltaXi65. NRaas takes care of the Ranger specific portions while DeltaXi65 handles the Scouting stuff. Very few professions have such an excellent correspondent working for them, much less two. We are definately heard by the people who matter (i.e. the Devs).
