Greetings,

I'm new to the Ranger boards and been currently working on getting to Novice Ranger. So far i been having a blast working up the scout line (alot more interesting then working my up the weaponsmith/merchant class)

My questions are this and i am sorry if they have been answered before

What do you guys/gals use to hunt larger game with, especially if you are a solo player? There aretimes i play late at night and its hard to get a group together to go hunt for the big game. I was wondering what is a good way to hunt for the bigger critters out there and not get sent to the cloning center too many times. I was thinking of maybe picking up Novice Creature handler at some point to pick up some pets to help out. But i rather maybe use the credits twards mastering a weapon or possibly medic.

Also what to find thats more usefull as far as weapons go? currently i have 0/4/4/4 in the marksmen tree and i am over half way to either Carbineer or Pistoleer.I wanted to get the generalidea whatthe rangers around here been using.

Thanks for the help in advance.

use what ever weapon makes the game the most fun, weather that be a sword or a pistol. its all up to you.

youll probaly want a cowardly gurreck (3200 ham), you can use them even if your not a ch.

I solo a lot and have tried to be as self sufficient as possible.

Went for the ranger / CH mix with pistoleer for support. As additional skills to the scout/ranger ones I have CH at2 2 0 3, pistoleer 0 0 3 0, medic 2 1 0 0 and artisan 4 0 0 2. This way I can have two pets tanking (creature mgmt 3) while I use stopping shot (pistoleer 3) from a distance andwhen I'm camping Ican sample inorganics andusejunk organics to make stim packs.

I'll try to keep a balance of skills until my points are needed to master one of my professions.

While you're building up your chosen profession why let the skill points go to waste... might as well spread them out andthe restwill come easier.Ifyou spend a few points in CH youcould get a bigger and better pet which will stand up to bigger animals/NPCs andyou'll get more scout xp for it (of course this is all in theory because pets are getting nerfed soon).

Well that's what I'm doing

In my not so Humble Opinion... Pistols rock.

More choices, better moves, less HAM costs.

Carbines are not any good at all, a poor pistol and a weak rifle at best. The moves kill ya before the animals do.

Rifles are OK, but at short range, you better have a melee skill.

Ranged support - useless, useless, and useless, except for warning shot. Hmm, all those skill pts for one shot... nope.

Ok, I use a pistol exclusively, do not carry a rifle. I will use a DX17 pistol, but no one makes really good ones anymore. I can afford Krayts, so I carry those.

I usually carry 3 pistols, a scout, FW and DX2, just in case I run into something with a high resistance to one.

But hey, play what makes ya happy.

Adhesive mesh traps work well. They stop (snare) the animal for a short time.I could solo tortors on Talus no problem before they became pack animals. You can still do it , you just have to be careful to pick them out of the herd first (either wait until they wander a little apart, or shoot once and burst run to lead them into a more scattered formation and then pick one off). I had Novice Pistoleer at the time as well. No special shots, but more power than Marksman.

Other good choices are Mountain Krevols, Rock Beetles, and Forest Slice Hounds. Personally, I like the Mtn Krevol and Forest Slice Houndds over the Gurreck... But, they are all good choices for a non-CH/Novice CH.
