Thread: 3 Things That the Devs Should Add to Ranger

As a Master Ranger, I must say that I'm a bit disappointed with the class at this point. I feel it has enormous potential, but it is not quite there yet. So I have come up with some ideas that I feel would make us a great class. I have talked with Rangers and non-Rangers about my ideas for the class, and this is what I have come up with. Please tell me what you all think...

1. Rangers do not have anything in the Frontiering line that really sets them apart from being just an advanced scout. Sure we have big camps, but is there anyone who has actually noticed the higher heal rate of the HTFB? Furthermore, they call our experience in that line "Wilderness Survival Experience". Why not give us some abilities that would help us survive in the wilderness besides just making camps. How about giving us the ability to make Ranger Stims? These stims could be made out of maybe hide, bone/metal, meat, and or foraged goods. Depending on the stim it could do a variety of things. But so as not to take away from Medics and Docs/CM, it could give us a short-term immunity against poison or disease. This would make hunting animals that use these types of attacks much less dangerous. I would think of these as basically a herbal tincture made from things found in nature.

2. No other class, other than non-combat oriented classes, is as useless in PvP. No other class has a variety of skills that it uses to kill animals, NPCs, but on the same hand cannot use ANY of those skills against players. So, on that note, let traps work in PvP. I do not think that this would cause an imbalance in gameplay for these reasons. Most Rangers have a combat class to go along with Ranger, and using a combat round to throw a trap that might not even hit and doesn't do very much damage at all, keeps us in the "Support Class" category that the devs seem to want us in, because that combat round might have been better used toward a Headshot3 or some other massively damaging combat move. A supporting class however, would see the benefit of blinding the entire other team over trying to kill another player with that combat round.

3. Our camoflogue does not work in PvP. That sucks. It is another example of everything we have that works great on PvE and then does not work in PvP, leading Rangers to be a non factor in PvP. If I wanted to be non-existent in PvP, I would have become a smith! But I'm Ranger, I'm a man of the wild, I'm a master hunter! So to fix this, the devs should let Camo Kits work in PvP. Someone suggested in a post on the Developer thread, that it could perhaps take away our "blip" on radar. GREAT IDEA! That way players could still see us, but the only way they'd know we were coming is by physically seeing us.

That's all that I have idea-wise...until we get more of our concerns addressed, I'll continue to be patient and keep hoping that someday my Ranger will be a force to be reconned with.

"Rangers do not have anything in the Frontiering line that really sets them apart from being just an advanced scout."

"How about giving us the ability to make Ranger Stims?"

" let traps work in PvP"

As Klif_Hangar noted already... These items are in the State of the Profession list. The list is used to add meat to the monthly Top 5 report that is submitted to the developers.

"it could perhaps take away our "blip" on radar"

As for this one... The elders know of my reservations toward this ability, here is a recent post on the subject:

Hi there,

I believe that most if not all of these ideas have been presented in one form or other before, and I think NRaas has them all logged in his 'State of the Profession' webpage. That being said, these are all great ideas, and I would support every one of them being implemented. Thanks forcontributing your thoughtson our profession, and happy hunting.
