Guys, no one seems to be addressing the fact that Ranger to-hit bonuses against animals is not being applied to melee rangers. Isn't the theory that Rangers have a better understanding of animals and their weaknesses so they know where to hit them? Shouldn't that bonus apply to Melee damagers as well as rangers who shoot stuff? Why is no one else upset about this????

Can our representative spokesman correspondent please bring this up with the devs? Please respond.

Um, it's not that no one else is not upset about this. It's just that it is already on the issue list. You might want to browse through it some time for an excellent listing of all Ranger issues to date.

Clubber,

As both the Ranger AND Scout Correspondents are meleers, rest assured that this issue is front and center.

We're working on it, Club.

/agree, I thought they did clarify this for us. I know the skills still don't list melee. If not, the Devs need to at least let us know.

As a melee ranger myself, I'm not too bothered about it. If you look at the skill descriptions in the game, it specifically states that the bonus is applied for ranged weapons only. Would I like to have a melee bonus? Sure. But I assume there was some reason behind their intent to make the bonus for ranged only. I wonder what it is?

"Sure. But I assume there was some reason behind their intent to make the bonus for ranged only. I wonder what it is?"

That is a darn good question...

There could be some overriding vision to all this...

  • Then again the developers could have simply drank too much the night before.

NRaas,

I'm gonna go with drank too much myself. You know, I was watching that movie The Hunted with Tommy Lee Jones and Benecio DelToro...not a great movie, but good insight on Rangers if you ask me. Not sure if you've seen it, but it deals with tracking and stuff, ranger crap. In the movie, the main characters were most deadly with a hand-made knife (rock or bone). If there was an overridingvision that I was in charge of, I would have gone with melee bonus before ranged. A real Ranger would want to get close to the creature, and would know exactly where to hit it to cut/break/kill it most quickly. Just my two cents. Hope they fix it, not just cause i'm a ranger TKA, but because I think it makes sense (not that having 20 high tech field bases in your backpack makes sense, but you know what I mean.

And I know it's been said before, but you and Thunderwulf on the TKA board are by far the 2 best correspondents on these boards. keep up the great work!

As a melee ranger I would also like a clarification on this. Has anyone tested it? (hard to test I imagine...)

Well it's probably as simple as this. When was the last time you heard of anyone that went deer hunting, moose hunting, turkey hunting etc. with only a sword or knife? Never. You shoot game with a rifle, bowor shotgun of course, all ranged weapons.

This is just a sci-fi/fantasy game though, so they certainly could change the bonus to affect melee weapons if enough people feel strongly about it. It probably just didn't make much sense as a hunting type skill when they coded it.

Spear hunting? There weren't always guns, and projectile weapons. Rangers skills point to the crude and uncivilized, other than the field bases.
