I've just started harvesting resources for a living (gaining a total of 700k from my first sale ) and i just wanted to ask what is the best method for gaining resources. Running around in the wilderness with /areatrack by my side, or by taking the appropriate missions? I was wondering how all the ranger veterans do it. Also if any of you have any usefull tips for me, I'd beglad to hear them.

As a new Ranger myself, I'm also looking for some advice on this.

As a former Bio-Engineer, one thing I plan on doing is harvesting and selling meat, because I know that for decent meat I was paying upwards of 15cpu.

Can anyone offer any other advice?

Find two buddys and go on alot of high paying missions of the same creature typ, when you are in a group you get alot moe harvesting in because your not the only one killing thus you get about 3 times the harvested resources in the same time you would get 1/3 of it soloing.

I take missions because I look at it as getting paid twice. Then, determine what you want to gather, and can you solo the animals quickly, or will it take a while. If it's quick, for example, a fast 2k vynock get some herbie missions, solo. If it is a "I want a lot of hide" tortur mission for 6k, and you want it quick, get friends, and get more missions.

Paid twice because you get paid for the missions, then for the harvest.

It tends to add up, quickly if you work at it.

In my PA we do missions when we are group harvesting. Gurkson Lok and Spiders on Yavin are giving herb meat with ok and awesome OQ respectively.

Sadly mission terminals are much much more efficient/faster.

I've been hunting perleks on lok (god) for the past week now .. when I unequip my rifle they spawn right on the edge of my player city practically .. I get about 600 meat per lair .. takes about five minutes tops to wait for full spawns. You do the math

This is actually something I'm working on and hoping to post eventually; a guide to the fastest way to harvest X resource on Y planet. Anyone wanna help?

In fact since I'll be sitting here for 2 hours until school starts maybe I'll do just that o_O

I have different methods of collection. If I know what I want and what gives it, I will run missions for it. If I am doing my general collection, I will wander about and only harvest meat, or only hide, etc. Even though I may be out for hide, I always harvest insect meat and avian meat. I try to stay on the advnaced planets to maximaize my resources vs. time spent, but if my doc knows of a particular spawn, I will hunt where ever he needs. Darn Corellian Herb meat is good on Wanderhome right now.....uggggg....

Not always. I pick missions if they help me to find targets faster which they do not always do (the rancor example from the be's thread here for example, endorian wooly hide dropping mobs as a current thing I hunt as another example. No point in going back and forth to a mission terminal if I run into random spawns every hundred meters, which as we probably all know have more (double) creatures in them).

As in most questions that seem to be an easy a or b question it's more something in between .

Plus im pretty sure that mission lairs dont spawn bosses. If you dont know what the bosses are just go find a lair out in the middle of nowhere on endor with a group and attack it and everything around it till its almost dead and hope some bosses spawn that when the real fun begins.

Bosses are just very very strong versions of the creature lair you are attacking like the Blurrg Raptor lvl 145 and one mean SOB.

Two publishes ago, they added than missions would spawn bosses (i.e. Feral Orphans from Dire Cat missions). I usually get two missions based on what kind of resource I'm looking for and kill any random lairs or spawns with the mob along the way.

For instance, Avian meat was really good on Dath for Corbantis. I would get two Mature Reptilian missions and if I found a random spawn lair along the way, I would do that before returning to my missions. I would keep an eye out for the type of lair I was looking for (I needed a thicket). Random spawns are much better, but I found whenever I went out using areatrack to find them, they never showed up.

Well, there is a difference between dath and endor and lok.

For one I think Lok spawning is still messed up (dantooine seems fixed though.) So as of right now the only way I can find perleks is mission terminals, AND the mission terminals usually spawn them like 500 meters away which is nothing on a swoop.

When you're on dath or endor theres usually 2, 3, 4 different natural lairs all around you. And you can keep moving and running into more all over the place.

When you're hunting a specific creature I think terminals are faster. Now if I track a natural lair of what I'm looking for of course I'll go after it, and continue to do so until I can't find anymore. But the only practical means of getting avian meat on lok are perleks and flits, and I'm 100% positive I will find more when I get missions for them then looking for them.

Oh Oh Oh and OH - sorry Ellna, gotta disagree

Mission lairs do spawn bosses. I found myself nose to toes with a Sharnaff boss, and trust me, I was doing a mission at the time. Big old brute ran me over like a freight train, then left me alone and ate my speeder...tactical error on his part. I got back up, healed, then proceeded to trap and shoot him into next week.

Good thing I was too lazy to store my ride, or I could been Ranger sludge.
