Yep, the whole thing is still developing. I will admit to indecision on how to implement the Guild. These are my personal thoughts and do not reflect the way the Guild *will* be run...they are just thoughts I'm having... The "Ranger" that I think many of uf relate to are the Garet Jax, Aragorn, Drizzt types. Good fighters, but loners who try to spend as little time in "civilized area's" as possible. Then we apply the Star Wars twist to it, and we get modern versions of these guys, with a little more focus on the fighting maybe. Are the SW Rangers also loners/wanderers? I think they might be or could be specifically in the SWG implementation of the AR. The game mechanics makes the implemntation of a "true" AR a little difficult. There are no real Jedi in the game, and there probably will never be. The "jedi" in our game are merely force-users like the Witches. Jedi cannot be in this game either, the game engine will not allow it. Real Jedi do not run around slaughtering thousands of living beings. Well, Light Jedi dont anyway. So, with the Jedi a non-factor, where do the AR fit in? Its been stated in their "official" history that they are waiting and training. Waiting for the Jedi to ressurect so they may help again. So how can we faithfully represent the AR in SWG?
My first struggle has been deciding exactly whether or not to have a "public" Hall where we can interact and do business with the galaxy at large. DO we drop outside of Coronet? Or do we try to remain secluded and have all official AR structures in the boonies where only the adventerous find it? We have a spot on a secondary planet already, and its a beaut, and we also have scouted out lots of spots for Lodges. So will the AR become a Business Entity selling animal organics and WP to stuff we come across in the wild?
My second struggle was trying to justify the formation of a "guild". Many Rangers are already in a Guild, and have made friends and companions, and will not want to leave them. So obviuosly we cant force people to join the AR Guild. I guess what I have not been able to identify for the guild is a "Mission Statement" that will translate in a doable fashion in the game. "Protecting Jedi" can not be realized in-game, and so is not a valid MS for the Guild. What will the members of the AR Guild DO each time they they play. The crafters/support people will have a gameplay related to their crafting profession...but what about the Rangers? I will admit freely that I do not plan on being a resource harvester. I did it only one time, just a couple days ago, and I dont see myself doing it again too often. It was boring. Kill, harvest...kill, harvest... blech! Unless the Devs give Rangers a SIGNIFICANT boost our harvesting abilities, I wont bother. It took 3 people (Ranger 4344, Scout hunting 4, Scout hunting 2)3 hours to accumulate 10k insect meat on Dath (1000pe and 856oq). Waste of time, as it would have to sell for 100cpu to make it a decent payoff. You'd make a killing selling resources you spend 3 hours collecting from 6 harvesters. Waaaay more than the meat. I can drop harvs on a resource in about 30 minutes. Visit again 5 days later and collect about 300k stuff. Sell for 3cpu and make 900k. 900k for say 45 minutes "work". Heck, make it an even hour! 900k an hour, or 333k an hour? Blech, I hijacked my own post...hehehe....So what will the AR Guild *DO* every day?We have some ideas that might work...we'll see.
The last issue is the Guild Structure, policies, rules& regulations, enforcement, leadership, etc... I dont want this to be an oppressive organization, and I want people to *want* to be in the Guild. But there will be things to consider, like how there are more than a few immature people in the game, thieves, scammers, and so on. We have to protect ourselves from this. I'd like the AR Guild to have a reputation for honesty, dedication, fairness, and helpfulness. This will mean members commitment to the Guild. The commitment will have to be worth it, and this is where I hit the wall. How do you make rules and policies fun and worthwhile? How do we ask members to support the Guild? Organic donations for sale? Member dues?
So anyway, its in progress, but I'd love to have more minds in there grinding on these and other issues. I really think this can be a great organization. Rangers are more often than not more responsible and levelheaded than, say, well, lets just say FOTM profs. PvP especially runs in high-drama mode frequently, and this always causes problem. I'm sure every server has a group of PvP'ers who are always the subject of ranting and whining on the Boards. I couldn't see the AR subjected to this, so I woudl strongly push for Nuetral membership except where needed to complete Story Arcs and Quests. One of the biggest things I'm pushing for is complete equality of all members. There will be people with administrative duties who will be tasked with Guild communication, but there wont be ony one or 2 people who "lead" the Guild. Guild stuff is decided on by common votes. Non Rangers are accepted, but are not AR Rangers, but AR Support. They are still Antarian Rangers, but not the *actual* Rangers. Kinda like the Delta Force guys have a support team who are also called Delta Force, but they are not the commando's. Each one is as important as the other. They all fill a needed role in the group.
Send me or Reyune an email in-game and we'll get you the Wp to our one Hall and include you in the next round of planning. My sig has a link to a Board I made for better communication. Its only been up a few days, but it could be a great tool for communication. I look forward to hearing from you!
