Thread: Why are ppl saying that Ranger is Broken?

Okay, so I do agree that Rangers need a bit of a boost in the harvest goods quantities as compared to Scout

I also agree that areatrack could use a few tweeks (from what i understand)

I also agree that a few more uber complicated traps would be nice to have,

But beyond those EXTRAS, it seems that Ranger is one of the professions that's acutally funcitoning properly. I mean 90 % of Ranger stuff works just as intended....sure they could document the differences between Maskscent and Camo, but what professions couldn't use more clarification...

Right Now there is absolutely NO INCENTIVE for being a DE...they have no niche beyond making droids for Master Docs....the load lifters are broken, the probots suck, personality chips don't work at all, lack of droidekas, the list could go on and on and on.....Ranger looks fun, usefull, and nearly fully funcitoning....

Give the DEs some props for getting fixed, and if you think this Profession is broken, you guys should try to play Commando sometime....

Err, cos it is a bit.

At the risk of sounding heartless, I'm a Ranger, not a DE or a Commando. This would be why the problems with Ranger concern me more than the problems with DE etc.

They have their forum and corri to champion their issues and good luck to em I say, I hope they get all they want, I really do. Doesnt effect the fact that Ranger needs attention also, does it..?

Realistically, Ranger is probably one of the least broken professions out there. So I don't expect attention from the devs for a while. They can only fix so much in a publish, and there's lot of professions that need it a lot worse than we do.

Ok, hologrinder. You have made your peace with us and you may now leave. We listened to your complaint and I would guess most of us would agree, that the Ranger profession is the best there is in the game. That is why we are Rangers by choice and not hologrinders like you. So master the Ranger Profession, then get rid of it and then move on to the next profession and complain about it. Have a nice day.

While I have never heard anyone say ranger is broken, I would put my money on people not understanding how areatrack works. I bet that when they ask a Ranger to track for them, and the Ranger finds nothing, they assume that the skill is broken. Everyone I have come into contact with that doesn't know how areatrack works assumes that it spwans things. That coupled with a spwan occurring after a Rander has tracked no animals of that type makes us look broken.

Also, many people may have heard the problems with conceal not working like it used to. There are a few glitches, but people assume that means we are broken.

The incentive to being a Ranger would be? Other then RP, that is. Ask yourself this: how many "Master Ranger" titles have you seen lately?

I'm not being dismissive of the DE prof, none of us here are. I really, really, wish I could find a droid I could actually use. Don't be as dissmissive of our problems as you seem to think we are of yours.

"Ranger is probably one of the least broken professions out there."

Indeed. Most of our bugs can be worked around, or are minor.

The issues regarding Rangerare more fundemental:

  • There is not enough "bang for the skill point" in the several of the branches.

  • Namely: Trapping, Camping (and partly Wayfaring)

  • We are not "broken" but we definitely are not complete.

And the skills we do have are flawed:

  • Creature-to-Hit does not work for Melee

  • /areatrack does not work properly in a dynamic spawning environment

  • /conceal does not work against humanoid NPCs

  • Trapping does not work against high level creatures

  • High level camps serve little purpose (compared to a player with a droid)

It is not the bugs that are the problem, but design. And that is why the SotP is so heavilyskewed in that direction.

I for one do not believe that Ranger is broken:

with that said, I believe it is sorely under-powered...the problem is that when people come into Ranger, they have expectations of what they will be able to do. The have expectations of Aragorn, and a host of other fictional Rangers that we have all read about. They also come in with the expectation of the paramilitary type of Ranger, We have bugs, glitches, requests, wants and needs. Beyond that, the Ranger community is working together to find our nich in the galaxy.

The problem that I have with your post is that you have no supporting evidence as to the broken-ness of Ranger, do not confuse the mostly productive debates we have on our skills as us saying that ranger is broken. I know that DE's have had a lot of problems, and still will, however, you guys are next on the love-list and we are still patiently waiting for our love.

After all, one of the great things about us, is that while some of the things we debate annoy and hamper our success, we stay nonetheless.

Ranger is a great professin and it has the potential to be so much better and so much more enjoyable...as for now, we do what we do, we do it well, and we have fun

No not Broken. Limited. Our common forum writers have summed it up nicely. We need more.

Yes it is nice to be small selective group. But it is not practical. Unless you really, really wanted to be a ranger you will not make the trek up the ranger tree. Which leads to many problems throughout the professions. How far behind are the organics compared to the demand of their products? You see sky rocketing prices of organics because the demand is overrunning the supply. With ranger being "limited" there are less hunters out there.

The many with scouting skills do not use it for that reason. They have it to fulfill the profession of their chosing which does lead to harvesting. A fix here in Ranger could lead to a lot of changes over the scheme of the game. We need more Rangers.

That is my perspective. Besides it would also be fun to do something more. Something beyond just hunting. I love hunting but the same animal over and over again. You need a break every once in awhile. Having more would break the repetitiveness.

We are rangers for a reason and would love more to enjoy what we enjoy.

Um....somebody needs to spend some time reading signatures...i'm going for Ranger by choice, and ignoring my holo. I wanted to do Ranger//Rifleman for quite some time, but hesitated leaving commando for quite a while. After i got sick of commando, I was told how easy artesian was, so i stoppend there on my way to ranger, same with Archi, same with DE ('cept the DE grind suxors). If my 4th holo was yet another crafting profession, i probably would have done it also, but 10 minutes after i would reach it's master level, i would be right back in the 'hunt' for Ranger//Rifleman.....

Thx gg no re, T-f'n-T

I was master Ranger for 5 months before I got fed up. Now I'm 0,0,2,0 Til Soe gives me some incentive to come back to master. That being said I didn't drop the skills because we're broken, I dropped them because the ranger proffession is getting more and more obsolete by the patch. Wayfairing is maxed at Master scout imo, crawing fast doesn't help for anything we do (give it the CH's). Camo isn't worth building when mask scent works just as good and now we have clothes and food to increase our abilities with maskscent if it's that important to us and besides Speeders enable anyone to pass most spawns w/o having issues. the 2 traps we get are as usless against big game as any trap a master scout can build. and now in the next patch I won't need camps anymore since I now can pull a droid and heal myself any time I want. Area track works but why bother It's too vaige in it's directions to be usful especally sincemost high end creatures have static spawning areas now.So increased harvest amounts is all we get for our 140+ skill points (remember we aren't able to hunt at all w/o marksman or brawler).

So inComparison to DEs. after they Nerf Camps I'm sure everyone's gonna want droids so they can heal and craft wherever.DEs also build components that are only buildable bythem needed byother professions (even ranger harvesting can be done as a scout w/o ranger). Also DE's are getting major upgrades based on the complaints of the DEs. Plus to boot It only costs a Droid Engineer About 92 skill points to be a master.

The answer is that DEs Whine louder than Rangers and expect to be uber for at least 60 skill points less.

We rangers need to stand up for ourselves. Sure we have great Ideas on how to fix our class. But when was the last time The devs even gave us the time of day to explain why they are making our class useless let alone try to help us live up to our potential.

Now flame me all you want but if you do, tell me one thing a ranger makes or a skill a ranger has that can't be done by a scout that any other class needs.

Ya see, Rangers are not broken at all.

What is there to break?

1) Tracking..no other class can do that

2) Camo--Scouts can't do that to anybody but themselves, and who wants to waste 20+ points just for the lowest level of maskscent..not me

3) Anti-Aggro CAmps....F'n aye....if I had an anti aggro camp the one time we took on this DJMaster on Dath, it would have saved me 2-3 trips to the cloner, not to mention if one could Camo myself....1/2 my squad lost their bikes or it was reduced by 80% on the 6k treck to the DJMaster (it was about 800m from the Imp Prison)....plus the numerous times on Yavin around all the reds that we went resource hunting...

And btw, crawling speed increase sounds great to me, considering i'm going Rifleman also. So far all of their trees work just as intended...all the traps work, all the camps do exactly what they say they do. /Areatrack could use some tweaking for the whiners, but it's far from being considered broken....
