Uhmm... I'm a rifleman Ranger.... I like rifles a lot... but I also enjoyed going up to Carbine 4 In marksman... I have not taken it further though... I will for my BH character, but not yet.

Carbines look neat on paper...they have a lot of status effects, and aperantly w/ publish 7 they get better... not sure what that means though.

The crawl speed doesn't really do much for rifles... i guess it does more for rifles then anything else.. but it's not really a big factor.

Actually I find the crawl speed a boon as a rifleman. Many times as I take my first shot or 2, the target turns and walks out of range. With a slow crawl speed, you cant keep up. With the faster crawl speed, they can walk away and keep walking and I still gain ground on them without having to stop firing because "The target is out of range"

I find the Carbine useful for 2 reasons. One, I can tend to keep the creatures off of me, and if they do get close I can still take them out. Two, I'm mobile and can be enroute to a harvest position just as the creature is about to go down. Basically I think the difference comes in personality type, I'm fast and impatient. Riflemen tend to be more patient and more methodical. I also never miss a creature harvest.

I resently started a new char with a goal to be a Ranger, And picked up carbine skill as my weapon, since I had a friend give me a Nyms Carbine (no min requirements). But now i see that ranger get a nice bonus to crawl speed.

I actually enjoy the carbines, action shot is cool, knocks creature to kneeling, and with the adhesive trap and the tranquilizer trap i was able to solo a Matriarch Bantha without buffs, without her ever getting within 10M.

But My question is this, Is the Rifleman/ranger combo that much better than Ranger/carbine. Is it worth giving it up.

Please note, I only grinded up my weapon kill to carbin 4, then just started to have fun as the ranger. I Only grind to reach a point where I can kill durni without being incapped.

The thing with riflemen are that you can easyly lie down fire HeadShot2/3
at the target so i dosnt even attack you.. i can solo many diffrent creatures
with only my T21 and going phrone, without buff & armour!

At master rifleman you don't really have to go prone... or kneel...

pistoleer actually. I find being up close and mobile, is great fun, and seems to be a very supportive roll for a ranger. When solo in particular, I'm running around, throwing traps, and weaving in and out of the herd.

See, now this is how I've been doing it also. Yeah, I go through a set of Ubese in 4 days this way, but it seemed pretty effective. There are a few Rangers and former Rangers in my PA that are strongly suggesting Rifle to me, saying that it's much more effective. So I'm giving it a go and running around killing Vynocks trying to get to Novice Rifleman... it's REALLY tough to not whip out a pistol and start blasting.

Riflemen have a few big advantages. The biggest is probably /concealshot (an attack that lets you solo anything in the game). The other two main ones are the heavy armor piercing and /strafeshot2. But it doesn't really matter which combat profession you choose--all of them are extremely powerful once you reach master. Just pick one that suits your style. I've been a rifleman for a long time and loved it. I'm currently trying TKA as well and I can say that it has a lot of draws as well (the biggest probably being Meditate). But TKA really benefits from armor whereas I found that armor often made me worse as a rifleman (although the last time I tried it was back when riflemen took double damage from melee attackers). The special movecosts when wearing armor as a rifleman are insane. Even when not wearing armor they hurt. But they do let you kill most stuff before it can reach you. It's really all a matter of style.

To get novice rifleman fast, just get a good laser rifle, buffs, and go kill pikets. Bleed one.. then peace.. back off 90 meters or so.. and then blast it as it's coming for you... 2 at a time might get you incaped... depends.
