Thread: Any Master CH / Master Ranger

Hey all,

I've been thinking about the CU a lot, and was thinking that a master CH and master ranger may be a decent option to now consider since most everything needs to be grouped to take out.

What do you guys think? I'm trying to plan out my new character for the CU.

That was my goal before the CU and it will likely be what I end up with after the CU. Unfortunately I don't get to hunt with my pets that often any more so I am torn at the moment. Sounds like it will be a viable template at this point, but things have been known to change.

One of my Rangers is a MCh/Ranger who had been MCH/MRanger. It is a very good combination. I have been testing so much on TC EP3 that I have not been using any of my toons very much right now, but there was a serious problem of any aggro pet going out of control and attacking every creature/npc around them and not being able to control them. This came with patch 13 I believe and it has made in aggro pet you have almost useless, but it is possible this has changed in the last few weeks, So you need very good non-aggro pets to use. This has made that particular combination very frustrating right now. But it is a great combination and with the CU and hopefully with a fix for aggro pets this could be a really great way to go.

It still is a problem. I dismissed my 2 squills because of it. They're not fit for duty... allways wandering off and killing things I don't tell them too.

Yet, another CU change hit the fan: pets are not accounted for while grouped. So no higher missions, but also no less damage done to you.

This combined with the aggro system, as in "CH does more damage then pets, creature aggroes CH, Pet as Tanks useless" makes it even harder to play.

Why don't you get to hunt with your pets much any more?

That would take up a TON of points.

The general consensus is that the best method to make it to master creature handler is to tank for the pets, because if they drop for any reason, you lose all the xp you could have gotten. With Master Ranger it would be really tough to do that, not saying it is not possible, just tough.

MCH and Master Ranger is what I have been for the last year or so. i love it. The tracking and camo help find the critters you are looking to tame. i guess my quetsion is what will my ham and combat level be after CU. Does anyone have a calculator link that will give answers to those inquiries?

I have been recruited to gohunting with other people lately and they go into uber buffed armored sliced spiced food/drink/combat stacker mode and kill entire spawns of critters before I can even get my pets to attack a second creature. After harvesting, I barely get to the next lair on my swoop before they finish it most pets can't keep up so they don't get any XP. So I gave up on trying. I need to go solo again, this is too much like grinding to be any fun.

Ah, i see the problem and can agree with that totally. I try to hunt with friends now, but we try to make it so we don't go around "uber" in such a way that we kill everything that moves. Actually, we (being a few people, trying to get 10 or so) plan to hunt soon on Dathomir, unbuffed. I think it'll be fun, we do this.

As far as the skill points and low DPS, I agree that CH/Ranger will pretty much make me totally useless in hunting on my own, but I think after the CU, that most solo stuff won't exist any more. I'm thinking of this template for the good of the group, more than just me. That way I can still hunt with friends and stuff for fun, without grinding any more. Of course, this means I gotta only hunt with friends, and not go out on my own since my weapon skills will be minimal, and pets really can't absorb all that much.

I think I may go this method, just for the same reason someone mentioned that did this for a year. Conceal will be nice, plus I'll still be able to harvest, and fight relatively easy stuff (quenkers for example) without too much trouble. I won't be powerful by any means, but it would be fun.

Yeah, I was working on CH and that used to get to me too. By the time Fluffy (no matter what type of critter it is, I've always got one called Fluffy) ran to the target the artillery barrage from T21 firing RoboCops had dropped the prey before she got to sink her teeth in.

Having said that, working 'solo' with a couple of fast cats who were well trained was always more fun than working with a couple of tin-men who had a timeshare agreement on their one braincell.

It'll be interesting to see how things pan out postCU for a ranger/ch mix tho.

I am definately planning on taking up a good amount of CH post CU. Not only because of the HP boost, but because i have always enjoyed having a good pet at my side. Its very RP and Rangery.

I'm also a Ranger/Handler. I usually work solo, I haven't resorted to grinding, and I'veloved every minute of it.I would love to hunt with other, more often, but the time to deploy my "weapons" just takes too long. I just can't keep up. Even in the face of this and other difficulties, I still like the idea of a Ranger/Handler too much to give it up.
