Ok so i have always wanted to be a ranger becuase its hella cool, but i got sucked into becoming a jedi. Anyhow to cut off my rambling before it truly starts, when i go for ranger with my alt here are a few things i wanna know:

1. Are rangers still hella usful?

Pre-cu rangers got paid alot to track things and get tons of cash, post-cu is that still happening?

2. Does ranger suffer from any swarms of idiots and the like?

Alot of proffs have gotten alot of tards to fill up there ranks (some proffs attract certain people) is ranger one of these?

3. Is rifle still the best for ranger?

Pre-CU Rifle was said to be the best weapon for ranger, is that still true?

4. What else to take up withr anger besides the combat proff and ranger itself?

Once one masters two elite proffs you have round 20-40 left over SP depending on the proff, what should a Mranger/M[insert combat class] Take up as well if anything.

thats all i can think of for now, then Ye for your time.

Well just to answer #4 real quick, if you master Ranger and Bounty Hunter you'll have 18 points leftover, if you master Ranger and any other single weapon type combat profession you'll have 4 points leftover.

1. Can be. I've gotten requests to track and even more requests for harvested resources. Haven't yet started trying to make a living at it though.

2. No. Although the fact that you use the word tard causes me to look at YOU ascance.

3. There is NO 'best' weapon. There is the best weapon, in your opinion. In my opinion, my Assault Bowcaster, sliced and P-UP'ed is the 'best' weapon for me. Is it the farthest shooting, nope. Is it the highest damage? nope. Is it the best for you? Probably not, especially if you're not a wookiee-bear.

4. As was said. I'm a MR/MR, and after that, I have 4, count'em 4 points left over.

1. Yes, rangers are still useful. Requests to track hit me enough times on Dant that I took myself off search (that's just me-tracking has a very inflated reputation). Our harvesting is excellent, and groups that wish to harvest are always glad to have rangers add to that skill-and I expect that the organic resources are still a primary source of income.

2. Usually, only the really dedicated tend to go ranger. Recently we may have had an uptick on some, due to the P-Dart issue, but since that bug is going away in the next publish, they will probably leave. Rangers as a whole tend to be a fairly stable bunch. Well, stable for folks who spend all their time in the wild, that is....

3. The best weapon for the ranger is the mind. That said, ranged weapons seem to be ascendent in the profession now, but as others have pointed out, your playstyle may dictate a favored weapon (I'm a rifle guy myself, but I've seen some pretty vicious pistol wielding rangers).

4. As stated above, we don't get a lot of spare skill points. It's a bone of contention that isn't likely to change anytime soon.

Mileage may vary on all responses....

First off, yes, Rangers are cool.

1. Sort of.... I've gotten a few requests to track things, and you can still make money selling hide... just not as much...

2. Actually, that's one of the best things about this prof. Every other Master Ranger I've met is nice, proffesional, organized, and *gasp* speaks in complete sentances!!

3. Depends... I think it is, but others swear by the weapon of thier choice. With rifles, you get high damage (stuff dies faster), and long range, which is good since we don't have any defense mods. However, you get more special attacks, and state effects with carbs or pistols... so, it depends on your style.

4. As stated, unless you go MBH, you've only got 4 SP left....

Well, we can still track for people, butour usefullnessdepends on if people need tracking, you know? Creature resource demand seems to still exist, but not like it once did (server dependant, of course). Other than that, there isn't a whole lot we have to offer.

2. Does ranger suffer from any swarms of idiots and the like?

Depends on your definition of 'idiot.' I am quite the moron, yet they still let me post here . We do get a lot of repeat posts, but that comes from the forum being around for 2 years. We also get a lot of repeated 'this is broken and it needs fixin,' posts, but those people don't generally respond to posts that aren't theirs. By and large, this community is idiot-free, but we do need a good butt kicking every now and then to keep os on track.

3. Is rifle still the best for ranger?

Pre-CU Rifle was said to be the best weapon for ranger, is that still true?

My standard answer is, the best profession is the one you want to play. Rifle does seem to be fairly powerful, but it gets nerfed quite often (as it did pre-CU). I had tried Rifles during the Respec period, and frankly, I didn't like them. I am actually thinking of going TKM again (due to another post that got me thinking). BH seems to be a popular choice right now as it takes fewer skillpoints, when combined with Ranger, than any other combat prof, and it is a versatile in terms of the weapons you can use effectively.

4. What else to take up withr anger besides the combat proff and ranger itself?

Once one masters two elite proffs you have round 20-40 left over SP depending on the proff, what should a Mranger/M[insert combat class] Take up as well if anything.

Maybe you need to recheck your math. Ranger still needs Master Scout as a prereq. Therefore, it you master Ranger and an Elite combat prof (i.e. RIfleman) you only have 4 skill points left over. As I pinted out before, BH shares part of the Scout prereq and leaves you with 23 points left over, I think. Many people like to pick up Master Ranger, MBH, SL 0-3-0-0.
