Thread: I suppose we rangers are supposed to suck.

Oh greatI thought. Lots of cool new things going our way in the new patch. As they apparently decided to unbalance PvP beyond belief with the new LLC I decided to spend a little time with my new ranger skills instead. Wouldn't you expect us getting better compared to the last patch with all the "luv" we get?

Maskscent is now useless, or acctually it should be renamed to /quickonewayticket as it's sure to get you killed much faster than if you didn't use it. A large cat something spawned 60 metres away from me.. broke mask scent and aggroed right away... If I didn't use maskscent it wouldn't have attacked me at 30 metres even.

Areatrack is useless as the tracking radius is waaay too small... the time it takes to stop and track could as well be spent to survey about the same area yourself.

I haven't tried conceal yet.. simply cause I'm now spending my time looking for flora resources on different planets.. oh the joy.. but I heard it was almost as bad as mask scent.

I'm this close to either taking a break or leaving the game now.

Rangers aren't supposed to suck. These are new systems added to the profession that obviously didn't recieve the attention they deserved.

From what I understand, master scouts recieve 100% maskscent ability, that means it should rarely break against aggressive creatures. Conceal is supposed to be even more potent, and the modifyer relates more towards detection via NPCs.

They're broken. Plain and simple. They will get these fixed eventually... I'm hoping much sooner than later, because I find it quite irritating to have my maskscent break to a creature over 100m away -- and THEN have the same creature teleport to me and attempt to make me its prime meal.

At master ranger, we *should* be able to use conceal to effectively make us pretty much invisible to anything the wilds can throw at us. And with the ability to apply cloaking to group members and build kickarse bases, we'll be pretty valuable. Sans the bugs of course.

unbalance PvP?

Just because someone can do high damage doesnt necessarily mean its unbalanced.

Case in point:

ATST pets

Commandos (with todays patch)

TKA's - Theyve always been kicking butt.

Doctors with disease modules. If it hits your mind.....

Maskscent- I used it all night tonight on Yavin. It worked great for me. I got thousands of experience. Try going prone and using /mask. The lower you are to the ground the better it "sticks". If youre running dont even bother. In the future, stick to the subject rather than throwing a random wet diaper about pvp unbalancing that you dont know anything about.

Areatrack sucks? You are kidding, I suppose. You mean you're gonna run in a 500 meter radius in the 15 seconds it takes to analyze the results? You mean you're going to be able to tell exactly who and what is within 500 meters of your position in less time than it takes the results to come in?

It's working awesome. Only problem is when people are in buildings you get a -1 meter as your distance. Hope they can fix that.

As a test I found my friend in Espa playing test hide-and-seek. When he was in a building I only got direction. Outside a building I found him no problem.

Also tracked down other players just for fun. Found their name then confirmed my tracking them down. Everyone stops sometime, and that's when the tracker will get you. Heheheheh

And maskscent has the same chances to work as it did pre-patch, you just get notices now. If mask scent and camoflauge do not work, how did I pet two dragonettes and a red-con Dune Stalker marksman last night?

Please, know what you're talking about before saying it sucks.

Oops, what am I saying? I want people to think it sucks so they stay away from it and leave me with all the cool things.

That's probably your plan too, I assume.

PS - if you want to see me petting the Dune Stalker, let me know and I'll send you the screenshot or post it.

/areatrack did nothing. I could see a group of dwarf nunas and /areatrack told me nothing was around except for my partner's pets. Total cheese.

The PvP unbalancing wasn't my point, just something leading me to try out the ranger skills. And I don't care about commando.. I care about BH.. who now got a wepon that can hit for 12.000 damage. When the riflemen got an unnerfed T21 that could do 4k damage the devs nerfed it in 1 day saying "weapons that hit for 3000 make us nervous".

Maskscent can break now and it often make the critter aggro on you. I don't care **edit** about the XP as I'm a master Ranger.. I prefer usefull skills. I can't even run safely on the easy planets as some red big thing will notice me and aggro at 60+ distance. You're much safer just not using it and keeping at a 30+ distance from the red mobs.

Areatrack is not that usefull no. It doesn't help you find rare creatures as they are never as close as 500 anyway. Instead the 50limit get's filled up by loads of low level lairs and creatures. And the time it takes to stand still and track makes it very time consuming when you're not going to find anything interesting most times anyway.

You receive penalties to Maskcent while running. I hardly failed while walking thru Yavin (broke 2 times to giant crystal snakes on a 10 km hike), and never broke while being prone.

Mask Scent works less than before but it never broke on me. I could run from one side of Dantooine to another and it would only wear off. It breaks now because I am sprinting directly in front of 5 huurtons. It should. I can live with this - it just takes some getting used to.

/areatrack works absolutely great. I am scanning up to 500m and find everything I need. That was my favorite thing to play with last night.

I don't like the fact that we have to get Flora for camo kits. At all. I set up my first 2 flora harvesters on Dantooine yesterday and now I am waiting for the harvest to collect.

It should be foraged items, not flora. Any trying to find Dantooine Berries is a chore since that is what StimPacks use for good quality stims. It will be expensive to buy that.

If you want a stronger maskscent, go prone-still and apply it. It's stronger that way.

I am at a loss for words. I am so more in love with my Ranger-ness than when I first picked up the profession.

I can't stop playing with our new abilities. They work as intended. Even a Master Ranger can't /areatrack perfectly EVERY TIME. Maskscent works great for me!

As others stated, I ran across Yavin IV last night, from the Northern Outpos to the Rebel Base. I didn't get aggro'd once. Same on Dantooine. On Tattooine, I did get stomped on by Greater Mutant Womp Rats, but whatever. They incapped me and kept walking before I even fired one shot. Warp/Spawn issues are meant to keep exploiters honest, so I can accept that.

I have yet to try conceal kits, but I am sure they work as intended.

I guess you guys never played real pen and paper RPGs eh? Even that Lvl 25 Barbarian rolls a 1 here and there. It happens. Get over it.

"Much anger I sense in him..."

Patience... lets be adults here, and see if some of this gets fixed first. It's not like the Commandos who were told "it's working as intended"... at least not yet :/

Ypiana tracking does not work as well as you claim, perhaps for you it is adiquate, but I would like it to work as advertised. It does not actually produce a complete list, not anywhere near it. I tested it many many times last night and it regularly did not include creatures that were in plain site.
