Thread: To those complaining about Camo Kit Resources ...

I see a lot of people complaining about the fact that camo kits require resources that cannot be /harvested. Sure, it's unfortunate that we are not completely self sufficient but this "flows" with interconnectedness of SWG professions. Now *we*, like many other professions in SWG, must rely on outside sources to craft items.

I do not see your complaints as what I would consider *valid*.

Tatooine Wild Oats, i requirement in the Tatooine Camo Kit...... no one on lowca seems to be sellng this stuff or harvesting it. I had to start learning about Harvesters and stuff. Now i have to harvest my own junk.. and thats exactly what im going to do. I have Novice Artisan, Engineering 1-4. Im going to drop Engineer as needed and get better surveying. I can make my own harvesters, survey my own resources and be self sufficient that you very much, its just a big pain in the butt now.

Id like to see the requirements for the Flora slightly lowered per kit, maybe by 5. To my knowledge, no one but a Ranger can apply the kit so its not like we can sell them to make money or anything. Using meat and whatever else to make the rest of the kit seems kinda strange. I say Meat (if you have to ask, just think about the grease) and Flora would be more than enough.

Although you are fundamentally correct SirCaleb, you are completely mistaken when it comes to the ranger. I wish people would not be so quick to jump to SOE's FanBoi club and then call valid debate invalid. That just makes no sense.

The ranger type in the books (and by definition) is a loner. Self-sufficient in most things including camo, shelters, foods, etc. Camouflage in real life is derived from the materials of the region (muds, grasses, limbs of bushes to break the outline, etc.). A ranger should not need to stock up at the bazaar to camouflage correctly.

I can tolerate trolls and fanbois just fine. Diverse opinion is a good thing. But this is all of that rolled into one. haha.

I do not see your post as anything I would consider *valid*.

I dont see how you can see anything in my postas trollish/fanboius. I am simply stating the fact that Rangers are dealing with the same limitations that other professions have had all along!

With the /forage, is it possible for rangers to receive "survey-type" resources? I don't know since I rarely use /forage...

In any case, this is a call out to all the Rangers on Valcyn:
Please contact me in game (either a /tell or an email). I would like to set up a network of contacts (informal, not a guild like our bretheren on Ahazi, although we could call ourselves the Antarian Rangers.. tee hee hee) that would allow people to trade/sell-cheap resources. I know that there are other rangers like myself that have survey abilities and would love to assist rangers that have elected another route. My contact information is below.

Caleb, your point is invalid for a number of reasons:

a) we were already reliant on outside sources, just like everyone else. We need Weaponsmiths to make our weapons, Medics and Entertainers for healing, etc. A pure Ranger was already not even resource-independent for his own goods as we needed metals and polymers for our high-end items.

b) the resource requirement is too specific. If no one is harvesting (e.g.) Talusian Wild Oats this week, I can't make Talusian camo kits. People are not going to harvest resources with crummy stats so Rangers can make camo kits, and if they do, they're going to charge outrageous prices. (As an addendum, it seems the OQ of resources used in camo kits determines the charges, but since we have absolutely no choice as to which resources to use, we will basically just get random charges depending on what's spawning this week.)

c) it says right here on the label that we can forage useful plants, so why can't we get the plants we need for camo kits? Does this make any sense at all?

Well, it's not so much that I don't want to be interdependent. heck, I'm the biggest promoter for interdependency in this game.

It just doesnt make sense that a Ranger cant forage for fruits and berries, or wheat and oats! In real life I could!

NOW, if the camo kit required STEEL for the container, then I think A LOT of people would quiet down about it.

Sometimes people get so pissed at SOE because it sounds and looks like SOE doesn't THINK before they do things.

Sure, flora is a common sense ingrediant to a camo kit, so using that SAME common sense, don't you think we should be able to forage for it?

This same logic made them add hide to the HTFB....ummm...where is there a DROP of fabric in the HTFB? (BTW I know why they did it, for resource balance)

The flags?

Do you think Rangers are now the only ones that face this issue?! I encourage you to go look at the recipies for crafted items and see just how "resource specific" many recipes are.

I have people asking me all the time for planet-specific resources that ONLY a Scou/Ranger can get. At least in OUR predicament we are empowered enough to setup Flora Farms and get it ourselves.

I notice the bulk of my points went unaddressed.

Do you think Rangers are now the only ones that face this issue?! I encourage you to go look at the recipies for crafted items and see just how "resource specific" many recipes are.

An Artisan who needs mineral or flora resources from a particular world just uses his basic survey ability to plop down a harvester. A Ranger who needs a particular flora resource is out of luck, without an out-of-class ability.

I have people asking me all the time for planet-specific resources that ONLY a Scou/Ranger can get.

Scouts and Rangers will always be selling whatever organics we can harvest, because that is all we have to sell. Those are the only resources we can get on our own. We are not crafters; the only crafting items we make can only be sold to those who can make those items themselves.

This is simply not the case for our needed floras, in general. (I see Dantooine Berry Fruit is also used in Organic Chemistry, but Allakhazam's does not show schematics requireing anything else we use. There are some missing entries, though.) Anyone harvesting the rest of this stuff is either getting it because it is a sub-class of a needed resource that is spawning with good stats this cycle, or is going out of their way to get it for camo kits.

If someone is asking a Scout/Ranger to harvest specific organics, it can hardly be said that we have to "go out of our way" to do it. We have to hunt creatures to advance our skills anyway, and it hardly matters if we're shooting at Guf Drolgs or Shaupauts.

At least in OUR predicament we are empowered enough to setup Flora Farms and get it ourselves.

We are not; we do not have the required Survey abilities. Again, it is simply absurd that outdoorsmen trained in foraging can't find common plants on their own.

If you are referring to Mask Scent or /conceal, not only does it seem that people get along fine without them, and not only is that a good thing seeing as how they're not working very well, but I don't know a single Artisan who does not also have the Hunting and Exporation lines in Scout. I do, confessedly, know one who is surrendering them because he'd rather be able to shoot the guns he makes instead, but by and large they don't have a problem coming up with the points. They don't require heavy-duty combat abilities; they can get by with a few boxes in Marksman and a scout blaster if necessary. Rangers have higher requirements -- we're not taking an elite hunting profession to blast durnis.

and I'm going to work my way aroundthis because...

  1. no oneseems willing to harvest the resources for just a handfull of rangers

  2. I cannot be an artisan any more. Not if I want to make hunting the means of an income. Docs are crying for meat, and when Armour becomes viable again so will Armourers with hides.

  3. I can watch where the harvestor forests are and plop a personal harvestor and see if what I need is there. Don't really need to buy it. You are not really making Rangers dependant on outside sources, you are simply making somesales for a brief timefor architects.

Only real problem I have is the resources that are hard / impossible to get and the fact the function is not really working on my server very well. I can live with the amount of resources because if you experiment you can get quite large stacks with good materials. I actually like that bit. Just make it POSSIBLE to make and WORTH making.

...so much for depending on others... I'm still self-sufficiant thank-you-very-much

Or you could do what I do ... go buy a Micro Flora Farm (cheap) ... and then find an artisan with Survey IV and pay them 1,500 credits (or whatever is fair depending on location)to find you ahigh concentration of of the required resource. Plop it down for 3 days and you'll have more of that resources than you can possibly ever consume by yourself.
