Thread: I think Maskscent is perfect now

I actually don't have a problem with maskscent, it's worked just fine for me since the patch. I think it's much more realistic now. Before you could turn it on and abosolutly nothing would break it.

Yesterday,I was on Yavin and it broke maybe 20% of the time and always by level 20+ creatures. I'm very happy to trade the "never break" behavior for the small amount of XP you always get now if the check doesn't break.

I'd vote not to change it at all, it's working as I always enviosioned it would. It was never supposed to make you perpetually invisible.

If I have +100 MaskScent, I want to be MaskScented 100% of the time.

I understand not everyone (if anyone) will agree with me. It's just my own opinion. I felt the game immersion factor was slightly out of wack when I could just turn maskscent on and go dance next to a Giant Crystal Snake.

I have found it to be tolerable. On the other hand, I find it strange that I can sneak past a creature and they aggro me 100m later.

I'm am sorry, but some of us are having Very negative experiances with Maskscent and Conceal. Some of the people complaining have very realistic and valid complaints with some things after the patch.

I am a Master Ranger.

I walk, crawl, do ANYthing that should be giving me a positive modifier to Masking and Concealing, but I am REGULARLY thwarted by incredibly low-level creatures and nearly all NPC's.

Out of100 (50 creatures and 50 humanoids of various levels) testing attempts, conceal has hidden me a mear Handfull (27) of times. Oddly enough, they have all been against Very high-level humanoids and creatures like a Dark Adept andtwo Juvenile Canyon Krayts.

Out of the 100 attempts, I was aggro'ed 34 times! 27% success rate, 40% failure rate, 34% Critical Failure Rate! If you can do math, that makes Conceal far more Detrimental than not!

YAY! So it Does work... on things I see about 10% of my traveling. What about all the Evil Hermits, Desert Demons, Scyks and Bocatts? Why can't I sneak by them when I can get 240 worthless Scouting experiance RUNNING upon a Dark Adept?!?

I did notice that Maskscent is more reliable today, but Conceal is still more trouble (and expensive!) than it's worth.

I DO have faith that theseissues will be resolved soon, but some of the "optimistic" post that are cropping up lately are starting to sound... disturbing, for lack of a better word.

It's certainly ok to be optimistic, but dont let that optimisim blind you to other peoples very real problems.

And sorry if I am starting to sound "whiney" or rude. I am just getting abit frustrated with these problems lately.

There's an issue here you're not seeing obviously.. it breaks more often for me against LOW level creatures.. which is pathetic.. the only thing I can use sucessfully against low levels is camo, for the most part, though I have had that break vs stuff under level 20 at 80 camo skill. And you speak of experience.. sure you're gaining exp off scout off high level mobs, but when it breaks running past a hermit spider and you're at Wayfaring IV, its pretty sad. Those of use seeing maskscent break the worst are those of use that don't even need the exp anymore.

I have to say mask scent only work about 25% of the time which I think defeats the whole reason of having it. I, as many others, have a better aggro rate if I am not using mask scent most of the time. I was on Darthomir in the middle of nowhere the night before the patch and tamed graul maulers and the next day I couldnt get close to them. Everytime they aggro'ed me. I finally went prone and crawled slowly and oh so boringly close enought to tame and found some sucess but it took 5 min to get close enought to tame and as soon I tamed it and started to crawl away the rest of the pack saw me and you can guess how long I lasted. I think this is just another way to nerf CH profession without it being obvious. LAME LAME LAME! I guess we need to hold onto our high level pets cause you probably wont get any more. If you dont have a high level pet or you are thinking of becoming a CH dont waste your time till the figure out this retarded mask scent nerf. I am not generally a complainer but this is just wrong! Thanks for letting me sound off.

Guys,

My experience is that its not the level of the creature that is causing it to break, its the number of creatures.

I can wander around a hermit spider for two or three full minutes before it breaks (if it does at all). But if I wander into a nest of them, it's breaking much faster.

That's just simple probability - the higher the number of creatures, the more likely one of them is going to get lucky.

well, I'm seeing it break a lot on 1 creature (I always strive for that, even more so now) or 50. I'm not sure that is it, and I have been actively looking for a "pattern"

Last night I tryed something doing a few harvester run's. I went prone and applied mask scent then stood back up and went about my run. Each time it wore off prone/maskscent/stand, I was never broken once I even went out of my way to run through aggro creatures to test(and a little xp) with 100% success. Now granted I was'nt on yavin4 or dath but I hope to test it there within the next few days.

I got elected to work all weekend or I would test it more. If anyone has the time I was wondering if they could test /conceal with a small group to see if that makes it more effective also. Curious to hear comments on this.

Ki_Gu_Lon -

I was only commenting in reference to maskscent exclusivly. I haven't tried conceal yet and as such, can't comment at all about it.

It sounds as if you are having genuine issues with conceal and I'm glad you posted them. I wasn't implying anyone was being whiney by saying maskscent didn't work like before, I was just giving my own very subjective expierience and opinion of it.

I didn't think your post was whiney or rude, it was a very constructive analyisis of conceal as it has worked for you.
