Thread: I think Maskscent is perfect now
I actually don't have a problem with maskscent, it's worked just fine for me since the patch. I think it's much more realistic now. Before you could turn it on and abosolutly nothing would break it.
Yesterday,I was on Yavin and it broke maybe 20% of the time and always by level 20+ creatures. I'm very happy to trade the "never break" behavior for the small amount of XP you always get now if the check doesn't break.
I'd vote not to change it at all, it's working as I always enviosioned it would. It was never supposed to make you perpetually invisible.
Darth,
I agree with you - so far my experience has been good.

I'm am sorry, but some of us are having Very negative experiances with Maskscent and Conceal. Some of the people complaining have very realistic and valid complaints with some things after the patch.
I am a Master Ranger.
I walk, crawl, do ANYthing that should be giving me a positive modifier to Masking and Concealing, but I am REGULARLY thwarted by incredibly low-level creatures and nearly all NPC's.
Out of100 (50 creatures and 50 humanoids of various levels) testing attempts, conceal has hidden me a mear Handfull (27) of times. Oddly enough, they have all been against Very high-level humanoids and creatures like a Dark Adept andtwo Juvenile Canyon Krayts.
Out of the 100 attempts, I was aggro'ed 34 times! 27% success rate, 40% failure rate, 34% Critical Failure Rate! If you can do math, that makes Conceal far more Detrimental than not!
YAY! So it Does work... on things I see about 10% of my traveling. What about all the Evil Hermits, Desert Demons, Scyks and Bocatts? Why can't I sneak by them when I can get 240 worthless Scouting experiance RUNNING upon a Dark Adept?!?
I did notice that Maskscent is more reliable today, but Conceal is still more trouble (and expensive!) than it's worth.
I DO have faith that theseissues will be resolved soon, but some of the "optimistic" post that are cropping up lately are starting to sound... disturbing, for lack of a better word.
It's certainly ok to be optimistic, but dont let that optimisim blind you to other peoples very real problems.
And sorry if I am starting to sound "whiney" or rude. I am just getting abit frustrated with these problems lately.

Guys,
My experience is that its not the level of the creature that is causing it to break, its the number of creatures.
I can wander around a hermit spider for two or three full minutes before it breaks (if it does at all). But if I wander into a nest of them, it's breaking much faster.
That's just simple probability - the higher the number of creatures, the more likely one of them is going to get lucky.

Last night I tryed something doing a few harvester run's. I went prone and applied mask scent then stood back up and went about my run. Each time it wore off prone/maskscent/stand, I was never broken once I even went out of my way to run through aggro creatures to test(and a little xp) with 100% success. Now granted I was'nt on yavin4 or dath but I hope to test it there within the next few days.
I got elected to work all weekend or I would test it more. If anyone has the time I was wondering if they could test /conceal with a small group to see if that makes it more effective also. Curious to hear comments on this.
Ki_Gu_Lon -
I was only commenting in reference to maskscent exclusivly. I haven't tried conceal yet and as such, can't comment at all about it.
It sounds as if you are having genuine issues with conceal and I'm glad you posted them. I wasn't implying anyone was being whiney by saying maskscent didn't work like before, I was just giving my own very subjective expierience and opinion of it.
I didn't think your post was whiney or rude, it was a very constructive analyisis of conceal as it has worked for you. ![]()
