Thread: My experience with area track and conceal.
Just wanted to add my two cents here. no real whining, just opinions.
I made master ranger a couple of days before the the patch, so have been able to experience the full effects, so here are my thoughts.
Area track - very usefull, but unfortunetly suffers some bugs that I'm sure will be fixed.I don't believe that the animal tracker should pick up1)corpses, 2) vendors, 3) player npc pets(ch pets are fine because they are, well, infact animals). Personally I don't mind if we can't select an actual waypoint, because I have noproblem navigating with the compass and the map(as a ranger should be able to) and have been able to find what i was looking for everytime. An increased range would be good as well, and it sometimes seems it doesn't catch all creatures in a given area because I've had a couple suprise spawns while I'm in right in the middle of the pack within 100 meters of where I did the scan.
/conceal - personally, I think it works as intended. with it on,I don't believe it suffers the same penalties as maskscent, because I've been able to walk into a group of dune lizards and desert quills(which are usually very aggressive), tame their babies, and walk away with them, all without getting detected and getting quite a bit of xp(although it's quite useless to me). It also seems to be working for npc's as well because I was able to walk up toa tusken group(a warlord, a couple of captains and the such) with out it breaking and it giving me again some xp. For Those complaining that we can't use maskscent with it, well we are using maskscent with it, because conceal is just an extention of it that requires a kit to use.
Now as for quantity we get per kit and the amount/kinds of resources we need. For the amount we use, the realative short time it lasts(20 mins) and the fact that we're expected to use these for groups, 2 per kit is not enough(although I'm sure we could get more with experimentation and the like) I think we should get a min. of 5 per kit at the same resource cost.
Resources. I have absolutely no problem with 3 of the 4 resources. Specific Bone, Hide, and meat are all very readily available/easily attainable resources. As a Ranger, this is how I've made my living, by selling said resources, so this just means I'll have to cut into my profits a bit. However, like everyone else, I find it very silly to have an ultra specific piece of Flora to have to try and find. For the Tat kit, it took me two days of yelling "Does anyone have any freakin' Wild Oats!!" because there were none on the bazaar on the entire planet. One person happened to have almost 500 of it when I finally found them, but couldn't trade it to me because she was imperial and I'm a neutral *doh*. Had her post it on the bazaar, whichwas risky because if another person had happen to be looking for it, I was skrewed.
Like others, I do believe this needs to be changed. I don't believe rangers should be able to survey for flora. This is an artisan's ability, and I don't have the skillpoints to use in another proffession.I do think our foraging ability should be used for this purpose, either by letting us use 15-20 different types of the food we can now forage in the schematic, or allow us to forage only specific flora we need for our kits; This could be randomize between what we can forage now and the flora, say 1 out of every 5 successfull forages or so wecan find3 flora(base, you can get more the higher your forage skill is)
Anyway, I'm going to go try and fins some dragonets and see if I can tame them ![]()
On the whole I agree with what you are saying in your post. But they will have to make foraged items stackable or it won't work even if we can forage for them. Secondly, I have always believed scout/rangers should be able to forage and survive well in the wilderness. They have historically always been able to tell what plants they can eat, which were poisinous, which would make you ill, which were good for shelters etc. So to give us a flora of any kind, since we currently can find it on our own (yah, we can track almost anything but we can't tell one plant from another? give me a break). So I believe if they want to make this flora required they have to give us the ability to find and harvest it on our own. Ranger are not the factory or extractor types. They don't want to be chained down to anything for to long.
Otherwise I pretty much agree with your post.

Definetly, if Rangers are able to forage, the items should be stackable, and for the most part, that's what I meant in the post, but didn't make myself clear. When I said that rangers should be able to forage flora required, they should only be able to forage that one type of flora required by the camo kits(per planet), and since the flora would be of the same type, they would stack as normal. yeah, it would be pretty silly if they were not stackeable because 5 stacks of 3 units of wild oats for example would be pretty useless.
Yes please! Stackable foraged items would be a major boon. I have so much freakin' bait and foods that I can't even give it away. Peko Peko's don't eat worms or bugs. Go figure. Sure, fishing is fun at times but I don't need camping xp anymore and there are other things I'd rather be doing in my camp.
Use a weapon, droid and gen crafting tool, go to a matching public station and experiment. Use the highest quality materials possible. I was able to make stacks of 7 Corellian Como kits in this way. I have heard some got 15 with perfect OQ stuff.

He wa actually talking about stackeable flora/foraged items, not the kits themselves(although it would be great if we could stack multiple kits together.)
And your right about the experimentation. they seem very good to experiment with, however the most I've been able to make so far is 4, but my complaint about the amount we got is pretty much nil now, which is a good thing.
Someone had posted in another thread that Conceal was not breakeable. just to let him know, it is breakable, and it still take 30 seconds before you can re-apply a new kit. I had just finished taming my dragonet(which I was never able to even get close to with maskscent) and was crawling away, when a carniverous dewback further away broke the kit and charged me. The dragonet parent I was walking away from, follow shortly after. Luckily there were a couple of hills and I was able to get away.
