Thread: Does PvP has to ruined Ranger RP ? Some ideas ...
Yesterday I was in Endor, trying too find some easy mob to kill. I am master Ranger, Rifleman 4/1/4/3.
Suddenly I met a master Gunfighter With 2 AT-ST who was attacking CL 50+ Creatures'pack Lair. I asked him what was his aim, and he answered me he was harvesting herbivore meat for a medic.
He killed a whole CL 50+ lair in few minutes, and with only a basic scout skill, he could harvest 20 or 30 times faster than me (... and I would not be able to attack such lair alone)
My conclusion is that PvP is ruining Ranger RP, since other elite classes can do better than us :
- They kill faster in PvE
- They kill stronger in PvE
- They can defend themselve better in PvE
Just imagine how it does impact economy ...
Looking to the Ranger skill tree, I think there are some lack in our Elite Profession ... So I will try to list what I noticed, and try to give some ideas :
--- Field Bioscience ---
* Harvesting bonus is a joke since people can hunt with Faction Pets
> Make creature harvesting impossible if they was hit by fationnal pets
* Harvesting is more efficient if you are a good dammage dealer : a pure combat profession kill more and faster than us
> Increase Harvesting Bonus in Ranger tree to balance this. Combat profession often speak about DPS, what about HPS -> Harvest per second ![]()
* Creature Knowledge is also a joke since all stats can be found in many internet site, and give sometimes more informations than we can get (http://www.swgcenter.com/PointSystem/PS_Beasts.asp and it is not the best one)
- Make creature's stats be ramdom (specials/deathblow/to Hit/dmg/ ...) and add information such as "Is a stalker" / "Pack Assist" / "Run w/Herd" / "Ranged Attack" (it is incredible that we can get more on internet than in an master ranger's "examine window")
* Creature to Hit is a good bonus if melee fighter can use it ...
- give melee the same advantages to ranged fighter (already asked)
* Tracking is a good thing, also need a lot of improvements ... (I get an explore mission, I did not get animals I was looking for when using tracking ... moving around I found 5 of them 100m far from me !!!)
--- Advanced Trapping ---
* Recue command shouldn't be a /SelfSlain command
> Make the command to distract the creature few seconds, instead of taking the agro ...
* Trapping ... waiting for news ... (experiment traps; make hit/miss dependind on Character skill and Creature Level & weaknesses ...)
--- Frontiering ---
* Camping : Do not want to tell a lot of thing about it ... many done .... but Expecting more than the availability to have something that anybody can have (Crafting station vs personal droid crafting station / Wound healing vs Surgeon droid ... )
> Waiting for news about real improvement in this skill ...
* Foraging : The only use I have to this skill is tha ability to feed my non-CH pet ... Drugs and Chief's food&drinks give better bonus ...
> waiting for more ...but I don't think this should give us some bonus (it is the RP of Smuggler/Entertainer/Chef/Medic/ .........
... maybe a way to heal wounds ? +50 constitution 300s should heal 50 constitution wounds after a time of 180s, just an idea ...
--- Wayfaring ---
I will not speak about maskscent since it will move to the scout profession
* Conceal need maybe some improvements ... a good beginning ... waiting to see how it runs as soon I will be able to find ressources with good stats ![]()
- Currently have no idea about this skill because I cannot test it (lack of ressource / poor stats on current ones)
* Terrain Negocation do not give us a real bonus except the crawl speed and an irrealistic speed to climb moutains ![]()
- Decrease the time beetwen two burstrun depending on this skill (Increasing speed should give uber templates)... maybe get a 3 minutes wait at master level ?
It is just myown feeling ... So please consider it as it is ... Your comments are welcome
PS : excuse me for my poor english - this is not my native language ![]()
Erratum :
...+50 constitution 300s should heal 50 constitution wounds after a time of 300s...
To the harvest thing i've been thinking about it alot since no one have any need for what i harvest. I would really like to see that only some elit professions could harvest the better resources out there, so we dont have artisans that can get everything they need by themselves.
And the traps are not of much use from what i have seen when out solo hunting, when you toss the first trap the target notice you and attack, but with maskscent you can get off my record 8 shots on the creature before it locate you. A trap should be more difficult to locate where it came from than some laser blasts cutting thru the grass.
Just a novice Ranger so dunno much yet. A good post Hakbhar.
Agreed that the clown with the ATSTs was harvesting way faster than you were, getting more for less effort, and it's not fair.
One thing you missed. What if a group of Overt Rebels had come by, taken umbrage with the Imp's actions, and incapped him, or DB'd him? AT STs are not the magic bullet they were before the patch, Commandos are out there, actively hunting them now, and winning. The Imp "earned" those AT STs, he can use them as he wishes. Such is life.
I would suggest instead of complaining about the Imp, do something about him -- enlist in the Rebellion.

Sorry .... did i miss something ?
I am not complainning about Imp, I love imp and I can say a good Imp is a dead one ! (joking
)
This Thread is not intend to complain about PvP issues ... it is only about the side effect of PvP on PvE ... I though it was clear ... But it seems it is not ....maybe due to my poor English ...
With regards of PvP players being better built to take down creatures than a Ranger who is designed primarily for creature hunting, I think the answer is in Creature To Hit bonus, which most people just don't see happening.
I think perhaps Rangers should see a significant increase for this bonus when fighting creatures and for that a slight penalty for PvP but a compromise might be that we are awesome at taking down pets.
I aggree that the Creature To-Hit bonus is nie non-existant. I see no difference in my abilities to hit creatures vs humanoids.
Maybe our To-Hit bonus should bring us up to par with an elite combat profession with regards to creatures AND pets only.
It is disheartening when I can take three pot-shots at a bantha from ideal range while prone and miss with every one. ![]()
Jova - what I think this game could benefit from is more of a standard role for professions with regards to combat. Not just everyone get a gun and do the same form of attack. If we could successfully take down pets better than anyone, then usually there has to be a weakness somewhere. Sorta like how in many games mages are strongest offensively and weakest defensively. I was just looking at the opposite of fighting animals is all.
