. . . andI don't mean my skill is low in it. It plain, just isn't working.

Heres what happens:

I make some Corellian camo kits, target myself and use /conceal. The little icon in my HAM window says "Mask Scent" . . . hmmm, no biggy, guess the devs were just lazy --- better go test it out.

Run out and find some red dot NPCs and walk towards them. They aggro, combat ensues. After combat the "Mask Scent" icon is still in my HAM window . . . check text window --- no "Your conceal/mask scent has been broken" message.

I'm new to the Ranger prof so what's the deal?

AmI doing something wrong?

Was there some bug introduced lately?

I'm really confused because I haven't seen 1 other post about this.

"Run out and find some red dot NPCs and walk towards them. They aggro, combat ensues"

This error has been around since the inception of /conceal, and indeed it is very irritating...

  • There is not much that can personally be done about the problem until the developers fix it.

In general, /conceal is very inconsistent when it comes to working against humanoid NPCs.

There is a "bug" in the camo system where, if you're camo is extremely low for a certain faction, they'll completely bypass the conceal tag altogether. I beleive it's within the 'State of the Profession' list stickied to the top of the forum.

Ya beat me to it! And, I meant if faction was extremely low, not camo. *cough*

"In general, /conceal is very inconsistent when it comes to working against humanoid NPCs."

What they said.

Additionally, you dont need to target yourself to apply it to yourself Just dont have anything targeted and it will conceal you. You can't apply it when mask scent already on, and you get a system mesage if you do. When you apply it properly to you or someone else, you should get a message that "you applied complex camoflauge...". It does work against NPC, but not consistantly

Hmm, I think there is something else going on here. Since they started the small patches(Friday I think) I have noticed that my maskscent does not work. I mask scent, run out of town to go to my house and get the little reaction icons from correlian butterflies and everything else. I pass by some spinecap flappers(whatever those stupid things are called), and they all aggro me. Granted I haven't died from this but it's annoying. I was worried about hunting, but when I went to Naboo and Lok it seems to work fine. It just doesn't work on Correlia.

Oh, I am a Master Ranger, so its not that my skills are low.

I've been very very dissapointed with this ability in general. I recently got up to the 2nd box on the conceal line, and ran out and made myself cammo kits for Corellia and Tatooine and have used them once and never again. Seriously, they seem useless to me. I was with a small group on Tat and applied it to all of them, and the first aggro creature we came across it broke on all of us. I forget what it was, but it wasn't an NPC, and it wasn't anything very substantial (CL 20 or below). Also, when I reapplied it to myself later, it didn't last very long and again got broken very easily. Now I'm wondering why I would bother collecting all these resources and bothering with the application of it if I can just click the "mask scent" button for "free" and it seems to work much better anyway? Also, now with mounts and vehicles, this entire line of rangering seems useless to me.

The hunting line I have similar feelings about. I love the tracking, but as far as the hunting itself, we seem way way underpowered considering our substantial skill point investment above and beyond scouts. My harvests are really not much more than they were when I was a scout, I hardly even notice a difference. Incidentally, evey week in the Bio Engineer forum people suggest bio harvesters as a way to get more meat resources because according to them rangers don't harvest enough. Well, here's a way to kill two birds with one stone: make rangers hunting prowess a lot greater.

I enjoy PVE, I enjoy being able to make a cool looking tent, and throwing cool looking traps, and tracking animals I want to hunt. I love hiking and camping in RL, and so Ranger is a natural for me. But in all honesty I think the idea of being a ranger is a lot better than actually being a ranger at this time. I can't think of another class where you invest so many skill points and get so little in return.

I concealed a group running from mes entha to graveyard and conceal never broke and we passed on top ov every lizard or red critter on the way (my groupmates just were fist thinkin i'm mad, then cheering for the power of ranger camo ability) but i'm at wayfaring IV, maybe that is the difference.

Do you group with a pet while hunting? Whoever say rangers don't harvest enough is lieing or doesn't know real rangers. I was in Lok last week hunting herbivore meat for docs (on my server the good one was there) and i come back every day with around 15-20 k of meat after 3-4 hours of snorbal killing. If 20k from a single hunter is not enough i don't see how a bio-harvester will get more (BER 10 large mineral harvesters just get around 10k a day on a 90% spot) and be better specially since they will take lots and maintenance (and probably they will need critters for start from)
