Hey folks... now wouldn't that be a really cool addition to our highest camp?

Or better yet a new master lvl camp!

Seems to me a place to repair your vehicle out in the wilderness would be pretty darn valuable!

Yes it would indeed. Doubtful they will throw us this bone, but it would be very nice.

I hate to dis such a creative idea, but now, I don't think that's a good addition to the ranger proffession. Rangers are wilderness experts. Our camps are made from the resources harvested from dead animals. Never saw a mechanic use a piece of bone to fix my car (although some of the places I go to are so cheap I expect them to pretty soon). This is one ability a Ranger has no right to have. We are master of the outdoors, so our camps SHOULD provide recovery to pets (the idea being that we know enough about animals that our camps provide them comfort.

However, the true Role Playing Ranger would see vehicles as defiling nature at worst and as little more than cheap transport from point A to point B, not as a way of life. Therefore a Ranger wouldn't have the skills to fix vehilces, so why should Rangers have that added to their camp?

Cool idea though. I think that they should add a new line to Artisan that would have an actual line that required you to heal others' vehilces-- The Mechanic line. They would be the ones to create better vehicles and such. But they could also craft some sort of portable repair station that could be used much like your idea. That would be cool. But as far as Rangers go, I don't think it's an ability we should have

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Neat idea. But I would have to disagree also. I have a vehicle now, used it for a little bit, but put put it away. I like the traveling on foot. I will probably only use my vehicle from my house to the nearest shuttleport. I am in a small player city, trying to keep small. The closest shuttleport is 1200m away, and unless I am traveling off planet, I will keep to the hell-toe method of transportation. The mechanic idea is a good too. The mechanic can either use the vehicle repair shops already in towns, or be able to havea shop in the wilderness for the price 1 lot. Being able to use/make custom vehicles, at least speed or performance wise.

We are Rangers, Outdoorsmen, Frontiers, Trackers, Hunters, Wayfarers of the Galaxy. Not mechanics. Although I can really appreciate the coolness of the idea, I would rather be able to hunt from my camp. Or at least be able to have more on my planet map telling me where I am. Like showing if I am in the "Nacho Cheese Plains" or the "Burrito Hills".

Still a neat idea though.

I could see it as a module for a HTFB.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

/agree

They don't even need to add an actual garage to our HTFB, just make it so you can repair them while you and the vehicle are in the camp.

Might make it too easy.......perhaps...a No decay while stationned in such a camp..and slowly ticking hitpoints up

I think its a good idea, gives some much needed boosts to higher level camps.

As for the point about mechanic using a bone to fix things, I would toss back the question does he use the same bone to build the crafting stations and other electronic equipment that appears with a camp?

Such an addition would defeat the purpose of the developers massive cash sink, repairing of vehicles.

I can go with a repair station that you still need to pay the money to get repaired...

  • Such an addition would probably end up in the hands of the Droid Engineer though, or the Vehicle Engineer profession when it gets implemented.

Perhaps an optionalcomponent created by one of those two professions...

  • Hmmm...

The one way that I can see it being succesfully implemented by the devs is actually tied to another idea of mine: modular station on the HTFB. Instead of having a single crafting station, the HTFB could have a choice of what type of crafting staion you have. A possible option to this would be a vehicle repair station that would still cost credits. Otherwise a free vehicle repair station would make the city garages useless...just find a ranger, give them some creds or a little hide and metal and you have a (relatively) free way of repairing vehicle.

also, I'd like to say that I don't expect all Rangers to be totally pro-wilderness. I think there is room for a large range of opinions on the subject. but when you're concidering the 30 metal, think that that isn't really that much metal, and fixing something as complex as a vehicle would (or should) require something equally as complex. I'm not saying it's not an interesting idea, but it would have to be implemented in a way that made it coincide with the rest of the Star Wars Universe. no where should vehicle repair be free.

If it was implemented as a part of a modular option on the HTFB like I suggested, it would cool if a Vehicle Engeneer or Mechanic profession could operate such a station for less money than other people.

tha't just my two units of Lokian domesticated meat (no creds-I'm a ranger, remember?)

Yeah I meant it as an addition to the High tech field base... or something similar that we could get at master.

I can understand the folks who say it's not "Ranger like"... but we already have crafting stations in the camps... which I am very grateful for, cause the groupmates love em.

And my camps already take 30 units of metal as well as harvested creature stuff... so it wouldnt exactly meanfixing the vehicle with a piece of bone.

Definatley a cool idea. Also, i would love to get another sweetcamp at Master Level.

As far as us being rangers and wilderness experts and what not, that dosn't mean that we have to live in a mud hut out in the middle of the woods. Just because we love the profession dosn't mean we can't be into things such as vehicles and other technology. It is the Star Wars universe, and technology flurishes. It's kinda hard to hide from it.

This isn't a flame in any way either. I'm just stating how i feel about the whole Ranger sticking to nature issue. Everyone is free to have their own opinions, and i won't criticise you at all. I will back you up if anything. Just because i don't feel the same way dosn't mean i don't like you and think the way you think is wrong. I just have my own feelings. I Love being a ranger and i love every aspect of being out in the wilderness, and i have a huge respect for nature as well, but that dosn't mean i can't like technology on the side.

Thats just my 2 credits.
