In you opinion, what would be a good combination of species and weaponskill for creating a ranger character?

I think you guys are cool, and I wanna be just like you.

Personally I am a Zabrak Ranger/Pistoleer/CH That may not be the best, but it's what I like so that's what I play. You should create a character that works best for you, not for other people. Zabrak isn't the best way to go for ranger since rangers need more action pools than mind pools which is what Zabraks are strong in. Pistoleer isn't the best weapons support for Ranger since pistoleer doesn't do the most damage of the weapons. CH is just a natural support for Ranger and helps out alot for soloing, but I think I will soon drop it to either master pistoleer or to pickup another weapon. I also have medic skills which help alot, but that too will be dropped soon for skill points to master Ranger. I play these roles because I enjoy them, the Zabrak species intrigues me, I am a fan of pistols, and I love animals. Read all of the Job descriptions and see for yourself what interests you and play those roles. The other great thing about Ranger is most all professions compliment it pretty well, so you can taylor a character to your playstyle much easier depending on what you like without worring about not being the best ranger you can be. The supporting professions you choose also help determine what type of ranger you are. Go with Medic and CH and you've got yourself a very handy Ranger for hunting parties, or try an Artisan support proffession to be able to craft and mine just about everything in the game.

I myself hunt with a rifle. I find the combonation very appealing. The abilty to move while taking cover (a rifleman skill) combined with the conceal ability (ranger ability) and a boost to terrain negotiation which increases crawl speed (another ranger ability) effectively lets me sneak unnoticed up to dangerous creatures and then shoot them without them being able to attack me. I'm can solo many difficult animals with this combo.

But i agree that it's important that you find a skill tree that fits you, and no one can tell you what you want.

this game is supposed to be fun, and you have to decide how you want to play. no matter what weapon you choose, with Master Ranger you won't be a uber-powerhouse, so you'll have to choose on some other criteria.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

im a human ranger. got some medic and entertainer to keep the people in my camps healthy. I am dropping entertainer soon tho(along with my broken CH..stupid nerf...) and am going hvy swordsman/ranger/medic. But any combo works great with ranger. You can be the fighting ranger, or the tracking ranger, or the ch/ranger...all depends on what you like to do.

Human Master Ranger, seven boxes of pistoleer, 2 boxes of squad leader, and the rest in entertainer.

I am giving up the squad leader and probably the rest of entertainer after weeks of fighting it. Despite using every strategy I can come up with, throwing armor on or off, high quality guns, traps, etc.... I die. A lot. I would advise against "dabbling" in a weapon skill if you dislike insurance and the cloning center. However, things change in this game... so my set-up might work in a few weeks

As most people will tell you, the most important combos are the ones you enjoy. If you like pets, creature handler is a great pairing w/ranger. If you like rifles, they work well. The ranger class is pretty versatile that way.

Another pre-coffee blunder! I'm Zabrak, not human... Not sure what I was thinking there!

ok, thanks for all the replies, fellas!

After reading this I might just stick with what I have. I'm a Twi'lek now, trying out Bounty Hunter, but I don't think that was for me, so I have Master Scout and I picked upp Novice Ranger today. From BH I also have Master Marksman and can pick any of the three weapons. I think I will go with rifle and drop the other two, so I can whip out as much damage as possible before I get stomped by the larger critters.I also hear that rifle blends good with the Ranger skills.

See ya out there!

Ranger with Master Pistoleer and a smattering of Medic.

I find that a couple of bleeds, a peace, and I am always camo'd or have maskscent on, and I can get at least 2 bleeds out of a creature (bleeds stack if they are not the same) before the creature gets in range for more carnage. Been soloing torturs, mutated kahmurra and loads of mean old Impies and loving it.

Rifle is ok, til they get in close. Carbine is a loser of a weapon, and until the Devs give it some serious loving, run from it. Pistols been nerfed, but are still not bad overall.

The Medic was up to pharm3 for stim Cs, alas, it went away and now I use some very hot stim Bs.

Oh yeah, human, so no great bennies, but no shortcomings either. Least I can wear clothes and boots and am not 3 ft tall.

enjoy Ranger, it's a hoot

Zerbrak, Ranger/Squad Leader/Pistoleer. I would have to agree with the previous post, Zerbrak is not the best, but i chose it for RP reasons. Pistols make it a bit harder to solo, but i am a godsend to groups, with bleed shots and health pool damage. Like others have said, it really depends on your play style.
