Thread: still a Ranger, but why?
I am having a crisis of faith here. It would seem that much like the frontiersmen of old, Ranger is dying class.
Terrain negotiation is of no use now that mounts and vehicles are on the scene
Conceal is no better than Maskscent, which is sketchy at best
Monsters are running amok inside the laser wire of the uber camp
All information regarding monsters can now be found online
And if the rumors are to be believed we are very far away from any sort of Dev love.
This leaves us with area track, which while buggy still remains a unique feature of the class.
And two area affect traps. Which when used, send all previously unengaged monsters to your location, even though they are now blind and or deaf.
What am I missing? I have been a Ranger for a long time, but now I have trouble remembering why?
I am because I worked my (You know what) off tryng to achieve Master status. I look at it this way...if everyone is dissatisfied and quits there will be fewer ranger (except for the holo-grinders) which will make us unique at best. We will eventually get the love we deserve and when we do, I dont want to be one of the folks having to grind my way back to the top. No sir, you will have to pry my dying hands from my Master Ranger title. Wont be leaving the profession.
Lets list the things we enjoy about Ranger instead of always eyeballing the things we dont. For instance.....
- Being a Master of the environment
- Being the one someone comes to when they need Uber amounts of resources
- Being the one people come to for training
- Being the one who can camoflage an entire group and guide them through the dangers of Lok and Dantooine ( ok bad example but you get the idea)
I hope you really stick with it and be patient. Great rewards await the patient.
There are a lot of broken things with the profession right now, but I still get a kick out of being a master. Like most of us it took me a long time, and tons of hunting to get to master. I've been able to turn this into a positive, by learning better ways to hunt, and also using the stuff I harvest and turning it into a lucrative business, which I plan on expanding. This in the very least will keep me occupied until Ranger gets some of the love it needs.
If we even get a fraction of the stuff that we've heard about or have posed as options this will be a kick butt class, and I don't want to be the one grinding back up the trees again, at least not yet. I still get a kick of how no matter what hunting group I'm in, and I pull out a Hi Tech Field Base and I hear "Whoa that's thecoolest Camp I've ever seen" or "This camp is bigger than my house". Or when I'm leading a PVP raid, and I do a quick scan of the area to see what kind of resistance we'll be facing from 500M out.
I agree there are a lot of things wrong with this profession, and many of them will be fixed eventually, but so are many of the other professions too. My advice to you would be to turn the lemons into lemonade (cheesy) and make the best of a very cool profession (or at least it will be someday). Hope you don't leave the profession, but if you do good luck to you.

I've wanted to be a Master Ranger since day one launch. I've achieved that title and wear it proudly. Knowing full well my meat harvests are loved by Doctors and Bio Engineers I'm friends with in game, as well as being able to out run any creature I encounter on foot is quite a treat. I'm always glad to be able to drop down a big camp and have wounds go away quickly.
My Master title allows my experience known in the wilds, and even though our skills might be hampered at times, our will and determination to use them as best we can continues to strive.
Rangers: The wildlife management. The resource gatherers. They are your ground support and your trackers of the trade routes. The few, the proud, the useless but bug-free, Rangers.
hehe, Seriously. Our profession may not work as we thought it would, but at best it's not exactly "bugged" just "not working properly". We've got very few real bugs, just not enough content in our profession.
