Thread: Unique Tracking Idea

I read about this idea from a Ranger on the SWG Discussion area.

They said:
"My Ranger needs 70 thousand scouting XP points to qualify for tracking 4. Getting and staying Master Ranger doesn't improve the tracking skill, it just gives me a title and now a badge. But if as Master I could earn more tracking range, say 100m for every 100 thousand scouting, that might be an incentive to get, use, andkeep Master Ranger.

Why can't advanced professions have some reward for mastering them, retaining them, and working to be better at them. As it is now masters of advanced professions no longer advance or get better at their chosen profession."

Using the above idea, I found this to be perhaps more useful than one might think. Perhaps a weekly(monthly?) +100m could be added onto Tracking Skill at Master Ranger. If you stay a Master Ranger, you get to keep your +bonuses for tracking. So, eventually, you would be able to track longer distances and know the terrain better. And as a Master Ranger, this is the general idea involved. To know your planet, no matter where.

By doing this, those of us Master Rangers could have a good incentive and advantage over the "tracking dabblers" in our class. They could continue at 500m, but in time, but we always end up a better choice.

This is just an idea, the original post wanted more skill points or something, but eventually the group decided on modifiers over time instead. Realistically, this is smarter. We're getting experience over time, and it is going to waste. Why not convert it into certain Mods that will last so long as you're a master? I mean, perhaps spread it out if we want it. i.e. "Do you want to use this month's mod on (Tracking, Maskscent, Trapping..etc)?" That sort of thing.

Felt this could be a possible solution to one of our many seemingly more useless skills becoming more useful.

Would be nice, even if all we got was a couple of hundred meters after X time as a Master Ranger.

The Devs should look into rewarding keeping Advanced Professions, besides a silly badge.

I maxed out my pistol skills at 900k, I get no more pistol XP. Same deal with Scout and Traps. Survival may be next, but that will take a while.

If I was not up to my butt in orders for hides/meat, I would seriously think about grinding to Chef. As it is, I am stockpiling stuff for myself, as well as filling orders.

Making Master in any profession should give more benefits than any profession now offers, make it worth something.

That would certainly make for better benefits than just a few useful mods and a new (soon-to-be nearly useless) camo kit. I especially like the idea of making it something that could be chosen, whether trapping, camping, or tracking, making every single character more unique in the process.

Similar things have been proposed and generally loved/accepted, BUT there are issues with things not spawning until someone makes them spawn. If they can fix this, then this would be great (there is a desire to have traking force spawns)! I like the idea of increasing the range at master, since it gives incentive, and keeps the dabblers a little under-powered compared to the masters.

True, guess I've never seen the "mod" idea as of yet though. heh.. just passing it out there.

Personally, I wouldkeep it simple...

  • An increase of 300m for the Master level (full range finally amounting to 750m).

The piddly little 50m bonus we receive for Master is not sufficient in any regards.

I like the idea of getting better stuff with the XP you get in the life as a Master Ranger.

And it could be easy done to capture this problem. Do it like it works with the faction points.

I have 160000 Trapping XP. Since weeks, Im not getting more points. Why cant I go to the Ranger Trainer and spend 100000 points for a better Trap-Schematic of the Stinkbomb for example, or 150000 Points for a new trap-schematic.

100000 Survival Points for a camp schematic, that heals faster, 150000 Survival Points for a camp schematic, where Entertainers can heal BF.

It would make me to a unique Master Ranger. And you too. We all would have our specialisation as a Master Ranger. And it would take time to get this specialisation. And only the Master Ranger, who stay Master Ranger for a long time, are really Master Ranger.

I like this proffession. I would never drop him. But its done, im not getting better now.
